Default For the unexperienced turbo guy.....

Well first, im not the experienced turbo guy, but i've learned a lot through my setup. Lots of people ask questions about what they need. Well I am going to list some small things that some people may want to take into consideration. Feel free to add to this by all means, Im pretty much a newb anyway to turbo, but this is my learning experience.....

1.) Be prepared for the worst. Never think your setup is going to go perfect, there is always something that could go wrong during the install, etc.

2.) Be prepared to buy a ton of bolts, I think i've spent a good 3 hours in aubuchon hardware this week and I keep having to go back to more bolts. Buy extra just incase. Also, don't forget to bring the part that has the thread to match the bolt (I bought stainless steal bolts). Seal those suckers up like no tomorrow, give it everything you have when tightening the bolts (don't go half-***). The bolts that I have had to purchase were broken ones when we installed the head, bolts for the manifold to turbo, bolts for the turbo to fuel matchup, bolts for the downpipe to turbo, bolts for nearly anything you can imagine. Just be prepared (they are cheap but they add up). Have a buddy with a car that can truck back and forth and not get pissed off.

3.) Make sure ahead of time that your parts matchup. Meaning the flange on your piping matches the Blow off Valve flange or your going to need to buy another flange or change BOV's (Im in this predicament right now). Make sure the downpipe matches and you need a FLEX PIPE. This all needs to matchup and bolt to your cat. This is where a good local shop comes in to play.

4.) Fittement issues. Be prepared to modify your fans or move them around. I couldn't squeeze my turbo by my fan and I have to move it and modify it.

5.) Need some more screws or self tappers for mounting the intercooler plus a drill and a big fella is handy. Mounting the intercooler is fun, especially since once its done its nice and pretty to look at

6.) All fluids (oil, antifreeze, etc). Be prepared with some extra oil just incase you have to drain to get the shavings from drilling a hole in the oil pan. Buy the cheapest ****, drain that and fill with the good stuff (mobil 1 synthetic 10w30 is what i used). A new filter is great too.

7.) Weld. You need someone that knows how to weld/has a welder. This comes in handy for a few things. Tapping into the oil pan is the key one. You want to weld there for the oil line. I also put JB weld ontop of the weld to guarantee it. Do it right and get a great weld so your **** don't leak. The welder also comes in handy for other parts if you need it.

8.) Now I know most didn't do this. But I got my ECU chipped (PHIZ ). This is for when I first take it out, and have to drive to the dyno. Just incase you don't have money right off to tune it this may help. Or watch your guages like a **** so nothing goes wrong right off. Obviously tuning is the key to turbo so set some money aside ahead of time for tuning. A great tuning device/tuner is huge for your setup and your reliability/power.

9.) Find a few buddies to help with the setup instead of forking out a ton of money. Not only do you learn a ton of **** but you also feel better by doing it yourself, helps when you have to repair things (because your going to have to eventually, its not going to be perfect). A few buddies that can help with everything or can do other things, or atleast provide entertainment for the time being, because the install isn't exactly a few hours.

10.) I guess last for right now. patience. You need it, and do everything right the FIRST time. Dont' go half *** to finish quicker or don't go half *** just because you don't want to spend the extra money. You'll pay in the long run.....

11.) Study, ask questions and know your **** before you get ready to fork out a ton of cash!!! You can never know too much....

Ill add more to this, I think I forgot some ****, but I hope this helps out some.

I took mine off, cleaned the inside out real well, laid a rag inside, then drilled, then removed the rag, wiped it out good again, then put it all back together.

Ya, I definately took the oil pan off. I had to take it down the street to the auto garage to get welded.

This thread should get a sticky, instead of asking all the newb questions they could just look here.
