Are you sure you have the purple wire tapped nto the correct WHITE wire? There are several white wires, but all have some other color(one wth a small grey dotted lne and one wth a thin small red stripe, one wth green). The one you are looking for is thicker than the other wires and it is SOLID white(no other colors).

Your o2 sensor could also be bad. Not bad enough to trip the CEL but bad enough that the F/R gauge doesn't read properly.

if the O2 sensor was bad you would be reading RICH, like me.

Double, triple, quadruple check your connection. I mean positive, ground, and sending lead. I'll tell you this much. Mine was stuck.....fixed, in green for a few days before I realized that if the unit is not getting any signal from the O2 sensor (hence the bad connection) is will stay pinned in the green. Just the way the unit works without any input voltage. So, your constant red may be a similar dilema.
