Quick Question for Hondata users
I ordered a hondata stage 3b yesterday. I'm running the GReddy kit on a single cam vtec setup. How good did your cars run with just the base map, I know its supposed to be safe but any hp/tq gains w/just the base map? Also anyone using the launch control or full throttle shifting...any quarter mile time shaved off by this or is it more for consistancy? Cant wait for my ish to get here, any info welcome, good or bad, thanks.

ps- Any one in the Chicago area w/editor and burner?

i just had my car dynoed and i put down 229whp and 190ft. lbs, of torque!!! out of a single cam with about 12plds of boost. it could have been more but i had 440cc injectors and at 50psi of static fuel pressure my injector duty cycle was at 100% at 7500 rpm. i would post the sheet but i cant get the pic thing to work.
My original JRSC setup did not work too well with the base maps, but most of the probs I had should not be an issue with a turbo system. It should work pretty well.
But if you are getting a Hondata why not just have one of the turbo maps that they have already tuned put on the chip.

My base map for a sohc turbo sucked. It might depend on who/where you get it from though. I have the drag kit too. I would advise you to make sure you get it tuned before running it hard.
yeah sorry man i didnt really answer your question last time....
my base map really sucked also. it was really lean, the plugs stayed consitanly white. i had an a/f of about 15.5-16.2 on the wide band on the first pull of the dyno.

Whoa damn, that is pretty bad even for a base map. Also, about the guy with 229hp at 12Psi. You have 8:1 pistons? I think that is robbing some power right there. 9:1 would be much more correct for your application, IMHO.
yeah i am using 8:1 but with this setup i can safely put 15-20 psi on my motor with no probs, (less likely to detonate) and make mad horesepower.... i used this setup for personal preferance.
thanks for your opinion though..

It's all good, I was not ripping you.
I guess I just wondered if 12Psi is all you were going to run with that CR. Now that you say you'll go much higher I can see why the real low CR.

You have to understand that the base maps arent meant to be raced on.
They are meant to get your car to the tuner.
Unless someone is giving you a previously tuned map, thats what its meant for.

I understand that the base maps are only meant to be used temparily untill you can get on a dyno, but the closest hondata tuner is a 5 hour drive away, I hope I have better luck with my base map, cause its a long haul from chicago to detroit.

Yeah I got in on the one at groupbuycenter.com. I think I'm heading up there the week of the 17th, if I can get it installed and put my car back together. This all should be worth it in the end though. I think the base map I'm getting is from a d15 with a hks turbo...I have a d16 and GReddy turbo, its a diff engine and turbo, I'm screwed.
I got a decent base map from Payn technologies. It idled fine and i was able to run 7psi of boost with no problems for a month before i hit the dyno. At the dyno i got 203whp with the base map and 7psi of boost.
It really all depends on who's base map you get and what car it was made for. When i doubt, turn up your idle fuel pressure to make sure that you'll have enough fuel under boost.

i'm running 8.2:1 C/R on my D16Y8, its low yeah, but its great for daily driven high boost, and the car is still reasonably drivable when driving without boost, its really not as low as you think it is
