Mounting radiator fans on front side of radiator?
Could I mount some cheep, AutoZone special, low profile fans on the front of the radiator to free up the room behind the radiator for the turbo? Would they have to be wired to run in the opposit direction to blow air through the radiator? If I did mount them on the front side, would there be enough room for the intercooler?
I did mine this weekend. You have to remove your A/C because they go where the condenser is.
Wired in reverse, fan blades reversed so the 'contour' on the blades flows the correct direction.
They do not get anywhere near the intercooler.
People said the car would overheat on the freeway, but after driving the car this weekend my experience is that it stays WAY cooler on the freeway. Air blows much easier through the fans than it did the condenser when I had A/C.

No...
wire backards, reverse blade on fan, put on front of radiator. If you just put them in front and wire them backwards they will spin the right direction but the curve of the blade needs to be like ) not like ( when they are on the front.

Dustin, Are those cheepy fans? I thought you bought some Fals for some reason??? I don't know if I want to sacrifice my A/C
Its so nice to have in the summer when its above 100 degrees. How are you going to get by? Oh wait you have a back up car you bastard
, does it have a/c?

Cool, those are the same fans I have, but haven't mounted, yet. Let us know how the cooling is long term and if there's any problems.
I bought them at a local store for $69 each. I am selling my FAL fans.
The A/C took about an hour to take out. I bet I could put it back in in a little more than that (have to take P/S belt off to install A/C belt. I just cut the belt off because I was lazy). I'd also have to recharge the system with R134.

Can you not mount the FAL fans on the front side of the Radiator?
Oh yeah, did you wire the fans to a switch or the thermostat? So your running 2 fans all the time now? Isn't one of them for the a/c?

Man you responded fast!
hmmmm.... I think thats what I want to do when the time comes, but I don't really want to sacrifice the a/c for it. Guess I'll have too, cause I want a 3" DP too.
Do the cheep fans move as much air as the FAL's?

Dustin, I just went out in the cold to look at my radiator, it looks like yours is alot futher forward than mine? Did you remount it out further?
OF: I looked my motor over real quickly while I was at it. It looks like I have a small oil (I think) leak coming out from left side of the valve cover at the end where the Vtec solenoid would go if I had a vtec motor. WIll just a new valve cover gasket fix this?

The oil leak is your cam seal... replace it. Mine was leaking too and I replaced it with an STR aluminum one.

Just don't use the stock rubber one they only last like 35k miles. It won't hurt anything to leave it... my car was like that when I bought it.

Alright, thanks. It just kinda scared me when I saw that oil leaking down the head. Its always so nice and clean, it just surprised me!
Dustin: How did you mount the fans onto the radiator? And did you just take off the radiator to do all your work or just unbolt it from the frame?

They came with these zip strip things to mount them to the radiator.
I was too lazy to drain the coolant. I just disconnected the upper brackets and pushed the radiator towards the motor
