Default Type r transmission question

What is the advantage of the 4.4 final drive in the dc2 trans?

Would there be a noticable difference with a gsr lsd transmission?

Looking at the pins that hold the shift lever to the transmission, the part number is different from the type r to the gsr as well as the linkage. Will my gsr shift linkage fit into the type r trans, or do I need a type r shift linkage for the trans?
