Default So the JDM final drive is in and....

So, we start ripping out the transmission and everything is goin smooth. Install went smooth thanks to the knowledge of Dave. I decided to go with the GSR 4th and 5th gear for Gas and Engine saving. Im currently running a 97 JDM R Tranny, and I figured by adding the GSR 4th and 5th makes it basically a 98 JDM R Tranny. Overall the car owns in 1st 2nd and 3rd. Acceleration is much faster and is noticeable. Overall I recommend it. Pics will be up in a bit since my friend was there for mostly camera shots.

You my friend are an idiot. Look at the gear ratios you fucktard. The GSR 4th and 5th are the same as the JDM 98+ r 4th and 5th. Since Im already using a JDM 97 Transmission, I added the 98 R first gear, keep the 2nd and 3rd and add the GSR 4th and 5th, the transmission is now a JDM 98 Spec. Same exact gear ratios as a 98+ JDM R tranny. So whats weak about that?

UDSM 4th and 5th are shorter and therfore pull harder!

USDM tranny with JDM final drive is the best of both worlds.

still a JDM spec tranny is not enough. the R feels like it was meant for an ATS and needs a 6th gear.

But, who really races all the way to 5th gear? I mean, I examined it and did some math to see if i would lose Vtec at the top of 3rd goin to 4th. I dont fall out of Vtec therefore dont really lose the pwerband. I believe that by adding those gears I can extend the life of my motor since I do freeway drive alot and the car is my daily driver, I also think I can save gas by having longer gears up there. Cruising at 80 and barely over 4000 rpms is good for engine life and great on gas mileage from trips etc. Im sorry for calling you names D, just didnt appreciate the comment you made. If the car wasnt my daily driver and was for racing purposes only then I prolly would not have done the gears, but since it is my daily driver and I need to motor to last me awhile, I figure why not. I also have 97 Type R 1st, 4th and 5th gears for sale now along with the 4.4 final drive if anyone is interested. JDM spec also.

oh man, Slowazzgsr thank you for the humorous reply. Changing 5th is pretty retarded.. changing 4th is completely retarded.

-Dave, who will ship slowazzgsr a free sample of Vagisil tomm.

edit: since you did he math, please tell us what the difference in RPM is and why you think that small amount will make any real difference. For the record, at 4000rpm I get worse gas mileage than at 4500rpm.

If he can show you the math of how many RPMs it drops, will you please show us the math (including aerodynamic and drivetrain losses) of how 4500rpms gets better mileage than at 4000.

You know, I onced thought this board was abunch of idiots. I then started reading some posts here and saw some insights...but this post shows the original thought. EVERYONE here flames everyone for nothing. Its not you ******* car, he wanted to change the gears. He didn't care what you thought, or he would have asked you about it, don't you think? I commend him on wanting to lower the RPMS on a car he drives every day. Hell, I swapped out my b16 5th gear for a GSR 5th gear to get it quieter and lower RPMs (BTW my b16 tranny had the exact gear ratios as his 97 ITR). I guess if you've never swapped them around (the gears), how would you know how your car performs in the lower gear ratio. ... oh well, hondatech still is a place for a bunch of morons I guess. It started out with "hey, how do I install Altezza tail lamps", and now its just a bunch of guys who think if they didnt come up with the idea, its not a good one. Ohh, and its full of people who take one person's opinion, and make it fact ( ie written in stone, set by the GODs... etc).

The **** it did. THis was exactly the opposite reason Honda-Tech started. It stated to get away from the 2 main boards that dominated that discussion. Just as you flame them for supposedly not doing their homwwork or ever sawpping the gears to 2 of the guys here that probably swapped more gears than 80% of the shops put togethers I will Flame you for being a fucktard. You flame Honda-tech but obviously forgot to do your homework. THe origianl post has totally been lost and is mostl dave and D's fault but this is no better.

Check on some Honda-Tech history d00d. If you want to learn I can tell you all about it first hand . . . I was there.

1. I've been a member here a LONG time, I've seen whats gone on.
2. I have done gear swaps before as well.
3. This isn't a "race" car, like everyone here must own (a car that isn't street legal and trailered to the track), so he thought he'd benefit from the slightly higher gear ratios in 4th and 5th. Honda must have thought enough about it to put them in the 98+ JDM ITR, another reason for doing the swap.

Everyone here seems to be very judgemental about people. Someone says just one thing that doesn't agree with the opinion of someone else, and they get treated like trash. Grow up, look around, its the internet. There is black and white text, a few funny faces and words to get your message across. If you want to come across as a jackass, type in all caps and call people names. if you want to come across otherwise, use sensable language.

1) Not long enough to know why this board was strated
2) Good you know more than me on the how to side.
3) Mine is driven everyday, tracked 1-2 times a year and auto-x'd 2 times a month. I have an ATS FD on a USDM tranny with USDM R 5th gear. No track car here and avsolutely no problems. My biggest complain is noise. The car won't last forever so using the arguement of engine life isn't a good one IMO. Gas mileage and FD installes should not be issues in the same sentence. if you want a better FD you really should not worry about 2-3 mpg lost (You could cover that by taking your lunch to work). I think the thing that really brought them out of the wood work on this one was changing the 4th gear for gas mileage purposes. I can't really see this as a good idea or beneficial myself. I don't have an issue with a GSR 5th as I think it would make my car a little better on the highway but at 4900 rpms in 5th @ 8mp and 4500 rpms at 80 mph with a GSR 5th I think the sound difference would be very slight. This is a matter of opinion and the one thing I agree with is we often forget that others have a right to their opinion.

This is a discussion board so disagreeing with that opinion is one of the things you should expect. Know the personalities and expect that sort of reply is my best advice. I think you would get a hell of a lot more from D if you asked him to give you some info on his thoughts instead of calling him a fucktard . . .

Note: I know quoted posted didn't call D a fucktard but in general you = anyone.

The post about the headers....... Many people want AC that live in the south, why not build the header if they have the capability?
