For those with the JDM final drive, what is your gas mileage?
Ok I currently have a b16 with gsr tranny and mugen p28. I get about 20mpg, sometimes more and sometimes less. I just bought a 4.785 final drive, and now I'm having second thoughts about installing it. To those with this fd, what gas mileage do you get?with chipped ecu?
Thanks
Blake

the only time i have ever gotten under 20 mpg is when i'm on the track and when my gas line sprung a leak.....
my b20vtec with b16a tranny and 4.785 final drive gets 32 mpg highway and 28 city.....i think there is something wrong with your setup

Hell yeah, those M00gen ECUs run rich as hell, all the time. I had one in my GSR to try out, and i got like 22 MPG, usually get 32 mpg, lol.

bah mugen chips are weaksauce to the real mugen ecu, i got like 12-15mpg on that thing lol
Yeah I know it's the chipped ecu that's causing my bad gas mileage, that and my driving habits, but how does the jdm final drive affect gasmileage compared to stock fd?

off the top of my head, maybe 3-4mpg difference on average, but dont quote me
I previously had a stock GSR tranny, but I rebuilt it with new ITR/B16A 1-5th gearing and added a new JDM FD. If this would help, I currently get like 250 miles per tankful if I drive normally, whereas when I had the stock GSR gearing, I got closer to 285-290 miles per tankful.
So yes, milege did drop quite a bit

Last tank I had 28mpg...but I haven't tweaked with the part throttle settings yet, normally I average around 24mpg.

My ATS FD gets me 23-24 mpg vs my 26-28 mpg stock setup.
It reallly kills me. Are you really that cheap you woudl buy the part but worry about $1.50 in gas?
I admit I bitch about doing 80 MPH and 5000+ rpms but gas mileage is the leats of my concerns. Although it did improve when i leaned out the cruising rpms.

Anyway, JDM FD, Authentic Mugen ECU 25-30 MPG depending on driving style.
mine is chipped also......and i have 290 injectors (woohoo really big) and my vafc is at adding 18% accross the board so i know i'm way way way rich!

Now, I realise that my poor gas mileage is because of my driving and not because of anything mechanical. Once again, I was curious as to how much worse it was going to get, but it's obvious that it's not much worse.
gas mileage will not be affected by much. i typically lose about 5-10 miles for the entire tank vs. the stock FD.
i personally think that my city mileage went UP.. as I can cruise around the city in 4th and even 5th with no problem (instead of 3rd or 4th before)

I usually get between 24 and 28 depending on how heavy my foot is. This is all city driving too. Motor is a stock 98 JDM R.
Just got the motor reinstalled into the vehicle. I just drove 310 on 11 gallons. This included 80pecent highway @85mph and spritely around town driving. Oh, and this was all with 4 aboard. Hope that helps.
25 mpg is normal for daily driver. Best hwy was 28 mpg. This is with Spoon ECU, CTR Trans, and ITR 98+ FD. Bone stock otherwise.
