I took some pics tonight of my turbo, inc a LOT of part numbers on it, and hopefully these can help people out...

Compressor... HX52? HX55? Anyone know?

These numbers were drawn on the housing...

Compressor wheel, 7 blade, looks cast to me, 65mm inducer, 98mm exducer (if my calipers are accurate!)

Number printed on the compressor plate...

Another number on the compressor housing backplate...

Turbine...

A 16cm one...

Some part numbers...

Also had this part number drawn on turbine housing...

12 blade turbine wheel...

84mm inducer, 70mm exducer...

Hope this helps people, and hopefully someone can give me info on it too!

Going by Garrett GT specs, its somewhere between a GT4088 and GT4094, but with an exducer even bigger, almost GT4202 size.
Going by Garrett terms youd say the turbo is good for 750bhp, just more efficient at high boost pressures.

BUT people seem to say Holsets do far more power than Garretts for the wheel size, so I'll let you Holset experts say what this turbo really can push out...

I'm very interested in running one of the holset turbos.. Too many pgs to read through on here. If got an 84mm aebs t sleeves and oringed b16.. 330/262 right now at 20psi on a 16g... Spools way fast.. No traction when u have full boost at like 2500.. My goal is aroun 600-650whp... So my ? Is which holset to use?? Will the hx35 make my goals at around 30ish psi? I cannot find much.. I can't find holders website to try to find some comp maps

had a bunch of free time at work today and sat down and read through this thread for a couple hrs and still have not really found what im looking for... ive read countless posts on b series setups running in the 15-20 ish psi range.. i keep reading that these dont come alive until just below 15psi.. so what are they doing in the 30+ psi range? from what ive seen people say 550 is the most it will make.. but i havnt seen any #'s.. if its makin 400+ on some cars around 18 psi.. it would seem it should make well over 550 pushing the boost.. a turbo this size and its intended application i would imagine it should push near 35 before getting hot.. maybe more.. dont know so someone with experience please tell me im right or set me straight! im no turbo guru!

shortbus you want a hx52 for 700 or more whp there is ALOT more technical info on holsets on dsmforums.com

jsarv a hy35 with a 9cm hotside will act almost identical to a .63 t3t4 50trim same spool and same power per pound of boost so if your prelude is a dd and you would be happy with 300-350whp then it would be a good turbo for you, i'd say you could max it out at about 450whp give or take 25 whp at least thats how it acted on a 20v 1.8t VW motor

what would spool on a 1.7l be like on an hx52?? seems a bit large for what im looking for.. my motor can handle that.. but.. i think im gonna go with the hx35 for spool factor as im going to run this setup at prob 450 for street driving.. and hope to push 600-650 on race fuel for the few times a year it goes to the track.. I want to build a evo road race car one of these days.. when i start to care less about blowin up the civic.. ill look into a bigger turbo and trying to make it hit 800 i think just for ***** and giggles..but thats all pipe dreamin right now.. so 450 street/650 track on a AEBS T sleeved/built motor tuned well (im in nc so ill prob carry it J. Davis) should be a fun weekend/track car for a while..

the hx35 won't make 600-650.......the hx35/40 might get close so i would go with that or the hx40 will probably do 600 i have no idea on how they would spool
go to dsmforums.com they have TON of info on ALL the holsets there are a ton of variations of them and the best info i've seen on them is from over on that sight so i would highly recommend you check into them

for the best spool and getting close to 600 id recomment a hx35/40 it has the hx35 for the hotside for better spool and the compressor from the hx40 for better topend
but check that other site you can get alot of good information on holsets over there check it out dsmforums.com

I'm worried my HX35 with a b-series is not going to fit the my ef's engine bay with the shorty log style many i have, anybody got any pics or wanna post up what type of mani they used for there b-series ef setup?

Oh yeah, for that that have the internal wastegate and wanna get rid of it, what did you do about the mounting "bracket" on the cold side of the unit, i was thinking of having it shaved off...

Default SR20 with a HX35???

Sorry to jump in hear guys. I Have been reading up on holset turbos for a week now. I have read most of this thread and DSMtuner thread. Anyways, I have a fully built SR20 in a S13 240sx (8.5-1 arias, eagle H-beams, ported head, and tomie 270 procams etc...) I have been running a GT2871R and a JWT rom tune with 72lbs injector(@740cc) and cobra MAF for 2 years and my turbo finally took a dump(375whp on dynojet). I am going T3 top mount and a HX35W 7 blade and try to max out my tune. JWT says my injectors hit 100% duty cycle at about 480whp?

How much boost am I going to have to run on the HX35 to hit 450+ whp on my SR? Do you think I should just go HX40 and run lower boost with more lag? My best times so far is 11.78@116 and 7.55@93 in the 1/8th with the 375whp. Do you think I can break into the 10's with 100 more whp and keep my tune?

i built a custom top mount for mine, its in the first few pages of the boosted ef thread and i think there are a few more holset setups in there as well.

only way you will know for sure is to try it out, since there are too many different logs out there. if the bracket is in your way and you dont ever plan on using the internal w.g, just shave it off.

Hi all

If anyone is running a HX52 would you please chime in and give some feedback on power and spool and general experience

Im looking to upgrade my Turbonetics T66 0.70 P trim to a HX52 (67mm ind.) or even a HX55/52 Hybrid (71mm ind.) on a 84mm sleeved LS/Vtec with Endyn head and Crower Turbo cams

Please share some info if you are or know of anyone using these Holsets
Here in South Africa Holsets are an unexplored territory !!

Thanx

Those are some impressive results !!

Judging by the graph the HX40 had nearly identical spool up to the GT3076R (which is known for its excellent response)

It looks like a Stainless Steel BEP housing - do you know if its the 0.55 AR or 0.70 AR ??

Thanx for posting some results !

His is the .55a/r t3 i used the mitsu .55 bolt on on my automatic talon and saw a little later on the spool (4300 his vs 4600 on the auto). I love holsets. All my buddies rode the gt35r bandwagon and hands down for the money Holsets are the way to go.

All this holset hype is really getting me optimistic about my setup on my built SR. So how much whp do you guys think I can get out of the 7 blade HX35 on a well built SR20. I will be running a treadstone log mani, 38mm external gate, with the stock 12cm2 divided housing(with the divider machined down). Should be between a .64ar and a .70 ar housing. I'm rev limited at 8K and I have tomie 270 procams with stock HLA's and BC springs. I am hoping to break into the 10's in the 1/4 with north of 500whp?

The 7-bladed HX35 with make 600whp in the proper turbine housing. Your manifold is going to be your bottle neck. you need to get a good top mount and I would get an undivided turbine housing to match your top mount that you need. The BEP .70 a/r is IMHO the perfect turbine housing from anyone that is going to push an HX35 to the limits. The HX35 will not out flow the .70 a/r housing. The HX40 pro pushs the limit on the .70 a/r housing.

Alright, i have read through about 20 pages and still cant find what i need. Im running sleeved B16 Block 82.5MM
B16 Head with Full titanium valvetrain
9.1 CP pistons
Mahle Rods
38MM Waste gate Tial
And I want to run an HY35.
First question Will I be ok with a 38mm waste gate trying to run 15-20PSI on this turbo or will i need BIGGER waste gate? Also is this turbo capable for 400-500HP?

The HY35 is capable of pushing over 400whp but not much more. It has the same compressor as a 7blade HX35 but it has a smaller turbine wheel and a 9cm2 turbine housing(about .48 ar). I have a friend that has one on a 1.8 GTI VW and it makes 365 whp at 20psi. It will spool very fast on the B16 put you will have to push it to the limits and run it very hot to make north of 400whp IMO. You could go HX35 (7blade only) and push another 100 whp but it will not come on line for another 500+rpm. It all depends on what you want. For all out drag racing I would go Hx35/40. For a Bad A$$ street car I would go HY35. It will still be capable of mid to high 11's in the 1/4 and be very resposive on the street.

Why the seven blade only? I keep reading that its superior but no reasons why...

It comes on the 99-2002 manual tranny trucks and flows 60lb/min compared to 52lb/min on the older HX35's.

Can you change out just the wheel? I have a hx35 off a 96 and I'm wanting at least 400whp. How much does the hc1 flow in comparison?
