if you get the hx35, look into building a divided manifold to help that turbo spool.
are you revving to 10k? if not the hx35 will still be a tad big for that motor, but will do nicely. the hy35 can be had for cheap and looks like it will work perfect for a d series. good luck.

have you dynoed that setup IMO the hy35 is the best holset for sohc its very similar in spool and power output as a t3t4 50 trim on a 18t 20v VW motor anyway

the one on the vw had a 9cm housing and it seem to spool just a tad earlier than a .63 t3t4 50 trim

what size housing are you using? how much boost are you running? how is the spool?
what mods do you have to your motor? how high are you revvin?

50trim is weak sauce I like big turbos. going to be revving to 8500 with a fully built head(possible to rev to 10k but my tuner and I dont want to. hmmm I have a hx35g but it has 16cm housing and it is like a 53ish trim. wonder if I will be able to get that spooled.

Anyone know a good turbo place that rebuilds Holsets? I might even need a new turbine/shaft wheel here. I got a VGT HE351VE for almost free, it just needs some work.

Any links to part number info? I'm curious what a new turbine wheel/shaft will cost.

the best place i've found to find good cheap holsets is truck shops that do suspension work and stuff like that
usually they like to upgrade their turbo while they are there and the shops have no use for the used turbos and will sell them for dirt cheap

alright, I figured out some other stuff.

What would be a good turbo for stock lsvtec. want to make 400whp

I have T4 manifold and I'm gonna drill for T3 so I can use any turbo.

i ran the hx35 on my ls/vtec...never got any dyno sheets but anything over 15psi open dp ripped my dr's right off...spooled hella fast too since i had the 12cm housing, although after it all id probably go a lil bigger to the 16cm so that the onset of power wasnt so quick

Ive had a .48 and a .63 50 trim and 60 trim on the car before. best setup out of the 4 IMO was a .63 50 trim, but then again i only ran 12 psi.

My relevant setup info that pertains to spool is as follows
Vitaras
TT rods
59300 cam
stock head
ramhorn
3" exhaust
2.5" charge pipes

Id like to see full boost (~20 psi) before or right at VTEC crossover
power goals mid 300s on pump 400+ on race.
Oh and FYI, the HY35 flows similar to the 60 trim wheel from the comp maps ive seen, and is less likely to surge. It also is much more efficent at higher boost levels. I have a 9cm2 housing which from my understanding is .64 AR, although I may be wrong. Either way, its on there and im using it. I think its good for the d series. Id be concerned about putting it on a b series though. HX35 for sure.
