Holset users unite!

I'm about to turbo my LS and I am definitly going to use an HX35. I've been searching on here and homemade turbo about these turbos, but I think i't be cool if everyone that is using one would post in here about their setup, pix, and expecially videos. I'm getting excited because its all about to go on my car, and i'd like to see everyone elses setups!

I will be using:
BMCrace log manifold
greddy type s bov
tial 38mm wastegate, .8 bar spring
dsm 450's
turboedit
JRC "new" 8" intercooler
Holset HX35
Stealthmode oil line kit
custom charge piping
custom 3" exhaust w/ N1 muffler

This is all going on my 91 Integra

Lets see what everyone else has https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

Re: (soon2brb240)

Friend has one on his DSM https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

Rebuilt 6 bolt with Wiseco pistons, eagle rods, 8.5:1 compression, sheetmetal intake, drag? turbonetics? random cast T3 manifold, tial 38mm gate, Holset HX35, AEM. Gone low 11's @ 120-124 on radials, it's a great turbo. 20 pounds of boost before 4000 RPM's on his 2.0, so probably a bit over 4000 on a 1.8. If I build a turbo motor for my 96 DX I'm definitely running this HX35 I have sittting here. It makes lots of power, spools quick, plus the ported shroud housing sounds damn cool https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emwink.gif

I had an hx35 on my b16, still have the turbo, might use it later down the road. I ran a 13.5 with some leaky ass charge pipes in my hatch at 9 psi and about 240hp. That turbo sounds so freaking cool. I loved it. I have a nice HKS 4" filter for it if anybody needs one.

Re: (hoggy)

going on my b16a in my 95 cx is
crfab a/c equal length mani
h1c coldside and cartridge, with 12cm^2 hotside off of a hx35w
rc 550's on crome or uberdata
custom i/c piping
custom 3" exhaust
hks bov
tial 38mm .6 or .8 spring
jrc 8" fmic
magnaflow muff
or i may use a resenator off of a dodge diesel
all oil and return lines, exhaust, i/c piping will be custom made by me and a really good fabricating friend https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

looking for a downpipe flange now. does anybody know if a regular 5 bolt will fit. i think i read somewhere that it wont. cant seem to find a vband flange that will fit.
none of my dodge friends have any left over.

all exhaust will be made from dodge diesel exhaust which come with 3" mandrel bent from factory

all i/c piping will be made from heavy duty truck radiator piping( they use steel pipes.)

i'm going to be using an HY35 on my GTi-R swapped sentra

scrEaMO Kyle 04-26-2005 08:33 AM

anymore?

blundar 04-26-2005 08:43 AM

you guys with smaller (1.6, 1.8 non-vtec) motors should really think about using the HY-35 instead of the HX-35. They have a single undivided T3 flange 9 cm^2 exhaust housing that works out closer to a .48 A/R (the HX35 12 cm^2 ~= .63 AR, 16 cm^2 ~= .82AR) which will mean lightning fast spools compared to the HX35.

Steven Dick has a HX35 on his built LS and was putting down solid mid-300s on 15psi and giving liter bikes a run for their money.

I'm using a HY35 on my built LS when I finally get around to building it.

Mid 300's at the wheel isn't enough to run with 1K CC bikes, unless by litre bikes you're talking about cruiser v-twin type 1000CC bikes https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emsmilep.gif To keep up with a 600 CC bike you'll need a good amount of horsepower, 400-450 WHP depending on how light your car is.

I can't speak about liter bikes personally but i have ran against a few 600's (01 r6 and a 99 zx6r ) on the highway with my old del sol. From a 45mph roll till about 120 it was very close. I was only making ~325whp (car trapped 121-122) A 450whp car will rape a bike on the highway..I used to get beat by turbo honda's making less than 400whp on my 600cc...they don't have much from a roll.

soon2brb240 04-26-2005 11:10 AM

This is all good news...I'm liking the responses! About the hy35, that sounds like a good idea, but I think that full boost at about 4400 is good enough for me. I made a turbo kit for a friend that hit full boost a 2800 on an LS in 1st gear with b16 tranny, it was cool, but no traction at all... I guess if I don't like the lag, I could always get the hy35 at a later date. Does anyone have a vid, or sound clip of this damn thing? I'm really excited to get all this together. I'm just waiting on my BMCrace manifold to arrive. I'm selling my t3/t04e turbo i've got now, because I just keep thinkin about the hx35 https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

DragSource 04-26-2005 11:22 AM

I'll be running one on a 83mm LS

Hoping for 500+

ETA approx 2 months.

Tell me more about the hy35...I'm trying to get to the magic 300whp with my stock LS. The guy that i'm getting the holset through has an hy35 in great condition, but not any good hx's...so I'm thinkin about running the hy. Does anyone have any experience with these? Should they be able to get me to my goal? Thanks guys https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

DragSource 04-29-2005 03:49 PM

I'm counting on you drum for the info on how it performs. . .my project is looking like it's going to take another month.

I spent some of my money on something other than a car part for once (first time in over a year it seems)

Delays delays, god damn hobby.

Looking forward to seeing your results buddy.

soon2brb240 04-29-2005 05:38 PM

Well, since i'm just so impatient, I'm gonna go ahead and get the hy. I'll of course let everyone know how it does, i'm fully expecting it to be able to achieve my goals. Anyway guys, I'm lookin forward to seeing the vids and dyno's from everyone elses setup! https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

I agree, you can't beat the price. I am running the HX35 on my B16; spool time is overrated. At 5000 rpms you had better be pointed in a straight line. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emwink.gif

But what do you think about the hy35 on an LS? I'm thinking like a 4000 full boost? Am I being too optomistic? Well, I guess i'll find out soon enough, but if anyone has any input, just lemme know!!

Dude, don't sweat the spool time. Buy what is available, be it hx35 or hy35; whatever you can find a good deal on. I promise you won't be disappointed with either, it puts a smile on my face EVERYTIME I boost.

I have an '88 CRX HF. It's an 1800lb car from the factory. It's got built 2L LS with an HX35 hanging off the front. I've run plenty of 600's, a built 750, and a new gixxer 1000. The only one that I couldn't over take was the gixxer 1000. He only gapped me by a bike length from 55~125.

Original poster, HX35 is a great turbo but it LIKES the big boost. You prolly won't be happy with it on the low(6~10psi) settings. The turbo really comes alive starting around 12~14psi, but hey it's made to run 16~20psi from the factory all the time. It's designed to run high pressure ratios on 6.0L diesel trucks not 6~8psi on a 1.8L 4 clyinder....Please consider the compressor maps that you can find on http://www.holset.com.

Re: (Speed PHreak)

Yea, I hear ya and I am going to run right at 12 psi. This is going to be my first turbo honda, so I'm sure i'll be happy as long as it pulls until redline. I've been researching this stuff for so long, I'm just ready to get it running!
