The Official EF Discussion Thread
Thanks Redzc(Adam?) They make some pretty cool brackets for some American cars, not much that I have seen for Honda's.. Look forward to what you got in store. Good luck at that event, Your a busy man!
Boosted, I feel your pain man. I need to find a money tree and start shaking it!

yeah, i am usually a "floating" instructor, because i'm also one of the organizers, and have a million things to do that weekend. i'm the tech inspector primarily, and have to check over every car. and several guys bring two cars. haha
and 250 for an HF trans is a fair price. D engines and trannies are going up in price fast. used to be 125 at the local late-model yard for a y7. 500$ now.
hf boxes are in demand by hypermilers. big time. and L3 cable boxes are OLD and HIT now.

Last D tranny I bought cost me $36 because we pointed out to the seller that if we turned the input shaft the tranny made noise. Feel sort of bad about that one now...
I have a mini parts department in my basement.. tons of old parts, some brand new in boxes. everytime I go to sell stuff I convince myself that I will need it eventually. 13 trans is a lot man! hahaa but you are a trackaholik! I still have my original 85k stock si longblock/trans though with no intentions of selling it.
Good to know its only increasing in value!

dude if you or anyone has a cheap used b series cable 90-91 clutch lmk, this civic needs one and i wanna keep it on the cheap.
Got my si tranny for free my buddy had it for a while and thought it was a dx
I didn't care cuz I was only working with four gears
Put it and and told him he lold about it

That's what I was getting at. Axles are the same on the tranny side but different on the hub side. Just wasn't sure if that was correct or not.
I'm 99% sure I have one laying around. Ive got like 3 b series clutches that should be fine for a stock motor. What's the spline count for the clutch you need and I'll go check my spares.
I sold my LX 5 speed transmission last year for $125, stupid me. I picked up the entire HF engine and transmission setup for $300 the other day but I drove an 11 hour round trip and $150 in gas and tolls to get to Jersey and back
no problem. I got really worried the other day when I thought I would have to downgrade to HF axles and 8.5 brakes, but then found out all the axles are the same on the transmission side, thus regaining my sanity
Much needed considering the dumbing down that the English language has endured in the past decade... fawking txt speak. It's one thing to change the lettering of a word for effect, but when you can't seem to use proper capitalization, punctuation, sentence structure, and verbage on a regular basis, it just makes you look ignorant.... or 12.
The car is in a shop (got stuck in first coming off the tow truck btw! don't think they ever got it out of gear without disassembling anything at least) and I need the car back together asap. Not even sure how I'll get to PA to pick up one of the transmissions I found.

Oh, and here's what someone posted to me in regard to this issue in another thread:
fresh mtf fluid and the si speedo gear unless the si trans isn't an 88. if the si transmission is an 89-91 you will need a clutch from an 89 civic (doesnt matter what model) if you want to keep your stock fly wheel or you can get the larger 212mm (i think it's 212mm's) clutch and flywheel for a 90-91 civic.
all that matters is the clutch disc has the same amount of splines as the input shaft on the trans. 88 has 21 splines, 89-00 uses 20

if your car is currently an 88, all stock parts, an 89-91 wont work as is. axles are http://ef-honda.com/main/viewtopic.p...t=80fine...etc..
the clutch is the problem. simplest thing is to buy a clutch and flywheel for a 90+ setup.. also the most expensive. id do that though.
or, i believe the 89 disc is the same smaller diameter, but thas the newer spline count. 89 transmissions are the same spline count as newer ones.

So with the '88 Si transmission into my '88 HF I should be able to get away with just the transmission, Si speed gear (what?), '88 clutch set.
yup..
88's are all the same oddball, small spline, small diameter clutch.
89+ transmissions are the same, but 89 clutch has smaller diameter, same "bigger" spline count as later boxes.
90+ is all same spline count, up to 2000 (EK, EG, etc, all interchangeable clutches)

Awesome. Can anyone tell me more about this Si speed gear? Unfamiliar with these type of transmissions.
I have three or four D-series hydro transmissions back at the old place on the west coast, but these older ones are unfamiliar to me.

The what clutch flywheel combo do I need for my EF chart below:

Btw, 1990 - 2011 All have the same spline count, and I believe they all use the same disc. I know up to '05 definitely all use the same disc.

This thread is WINNING today!
Some EF parts **** for you all. New PCI seat brackets, side mounts, and floor plates. I went a little crazy

Thanks for the info, Eric.
Called the transmission shop again. Still haven't had a chance to look at my car but he says once his guys come back from lunch they'll take a look.
I figure it grinds at idle, grinds if you try to drive it, does drive even though it seems to get sort of stuck, grinds and catches when you push it when the engine is off and finally gets stuck solid in first gear... Not to mention when I tried going through gears before the tow truck guy got it stuck in first, and you could feel heavy resistance for each gear (like a wall for each).
I'm going to say I probably need to replace that transmission.
