Drum, that sux man. Sorry to hear that. Bigger and better next time huh? I just got a bare gsr block (w/crank) for free, I also have a set of brand new wisecos and some brand new b16 scat rods (lookin to trade for ls or gsr scat or eagle rods if anyone is interested). So if I rebuild, it will be some aebs, ge or benson sleeves, eagle/scat rods and wisecos. Then I will be able to see where this snail really dies out.

Split, how much your friend want for that snail? Is it fairly fresh? Has it been run? Mine, I fear needs a rebiuld. My car smokes a bit at startup, which stops after it warms up (I assume that the tolerances were a bit loose as the shop I had bore/hone/assemble knew that I was going to be boosting it, and they usually build domestic engines), then after I run it hard it starts to smoke again. I also unknowingly nicked one of my coulpers while I was puttin it on my dolley and didn't notice so after I drove it the next time and removed my bumper (the damn car is to low for the dolley!!) I noticed oil seeping from the nicked coupler. This leads me to believe I have to much oil pressure or the seals on the turbo are going. My vote/guess is for the latter.

Where do you guys get your holsets rebuilt? A local turbo shop quoted me $275 to rebuild it. I could prolly get another one in good condition for less than that.

Comp map shows ~55lb/min. It would depend on the turbine housing and your setup. So, roughly 550hp.

ps - here is some links to a vid that my bro made when I gave him a ride in my car just a while back. You can dl the vid or watch it on streetfire if you like, here are both links..........

There are a number of different exhaust housings on the HX35. 12, 14, 16, 18cm^2, all will have different spool characteristics.

on my 1857cc lsvtec i saw 15psi by 4200rpm w/a 3" open dp w/ a stock exh it was more like 5000...so your exhast plays a big role in determining spool times along w/ motor size

ok guys I just read the 60 pages and I have a few questions that I don't think was answered yet.

I was wondering how does this turbo compare to a GT3082 turbo?

The oil feed fitting you'll say its a 12X1.5 fitting. I wanted to know if there is a adapter available to convert that fitting to a -3 or -4 AN fitting?

How much are these turbo with a .63 housing 4 bolt or 3in V-band?

I was looking at it to see how it compares to a Gt3082 and a t3 60-1 turbo? I'm looking because I'm planing to do a 500WHP stock motor project on a 2.0 16v VW motor. The head flows intake= 172cfm- exhaust= 123cfm. I'm figuring 30-35 psi should give me that 500whp number. Just looking to see which is more efficent at 30-35 psi.

Not sure which one you are talking about there..

I have one that goes to a -4 line. PM me.

HX40 PRO .55 A/R turbine housing

3" V-Band adaptor

I have a customer on 2.0L EVO that put down 525awhp @ 28psi on this very turbo. IT is the 6 bladed PRO version. Since you are looking to put it on a 2.0L VW which by your head flow numbers your head does not flow as good as the EVO head.

a GT3082 is pretty much a GT35R with a GT30R turbine with a .82 hotside.

Turbine
-Wheel: 60mm w/ 84 trim
-Housing: .63 ar, .82 ar, 1.06 ar

Compressor
-Wheel: 82mm w/ 56 trim
-Housing: .70 ar

Any input?
Stock B18C GSR motor, JG or BLOX intake mani, ITR throttle body...

and a holeset?

Shooting for 350 on CROME....which turbo to get is my question.

Ive read the past 15 pages of this thread, and am all confused. Seems no one just takes a holset from the shelf and goes with it...they are all hybrids...

My HX40 has a 19 on the exahust housing. [T4 devided housing 4"vband outlet] . so im asuming its a 19cm housing. starting to this its abit too big for my b16. anyone have any idea when it may spool? probbaly going to make a devided topmount. full boost by 5500 i would stick with this housing. going to make 600HP at whatever boost levle it takes. dont want to rev past 9k [itr valve train]

so....

6 cm2 = 0.41 A/R
7 cm2 = 0.49 A/R
8 cm2 = 0.57 A/R
9 cm2 = 0.65 A/R
10 cm2 = 0.73 A/R
11 cm2 = 0.81 A/R
12 cm2 = 0.89 A/R
14 cm2 = 0.97 A/R
15 cm2 = 1.05 A/R
16 cm2 = 1.13 A/R
17 cm2 = 1.29 A/R
19 cm2 = 1.37 A/R

1.37 a/r on a b16. should be pretty fun i mean laggy lol

IMHO the 12cm2 housing is the biggest to ever run on a gas motor. If you are going to use a holset turbine housing the 9cm is the way to go. The problem with that is that most of those have the nasty internal wastegate the make the turbine housing huge.
I guess this is the reason the BEP housings are so popular.

def gonna disagree w/ you on that statement..have you ever ridden in a ls/vtec w/ a 9cm housing...hell the thing lights up literally instantly and racion is a huge problem...even when a 12cm is used it helps lag the turbo slighty for better traction...its not ideal to correct the problem...but when your already running the biggest dot drag radials 225 and breakm lose there arent to many more options....and besides 4200+ isnt good enough for you as a powerband when you rev it out to 8k....

perosnally i think the 9cm housing is useless on anything bigger than a b16...

and the wg hasnt cause me any problems...and it still spools up to my likings
