Manifold design is key

Take advantage of the divided housing and use a split pulse manifold
I see 12psi (wastegate pressure) at 4600 rpm on a HX40 16cm2 housing variant on a 9:1 84x89 LS/Vtec

yeah i have an undivided drag log manifold, and my hx35 housing is divided, yes my tune is fairly conservative atm, mmmm looks like i need to put some more easy miles on this for break in and then off to the tuner for a good tune. anyone using an aftermarket .63 ar exhaust housing on their hx35/40 hybrids? i found one the other day and was kinda considering it, anyone have any thoughts?

You need to turn the boost up....lol This is what mine looks like once I lay my numbers on it.

These holsets dont even really come alive until after 15lbs, and even then they really start to get down once you get over the 20+ lbs of boost.

damn....

fyi anyone who has a choice make it....twin scroll reallly wakes these things up, its spooling much faster than my ramhorn, power seems to roll in smoother too

my new manifold consists of 1.25 piping for maximum velocity, paired 1/4 and 2/3 running two wastegates with 16psi springs and the best part......turbo placement

You have the right setup ;-)

90% of Holset users forget that the turbine housing is sometimes twice the size of what you'd normally run in Garrett/Turbonetics/Precision terms

So you have to design your setup to work with this (and take advantage thereof)

So I was thinking about it the divided manifold bit, And I remembered that I swapped hot sides with a friend that was making a twin scroll mani for his hx35. And that the one I got in return was a ported housing.

So divider on the exhaust inlet was cut down about 1" from the inlet and smoothed to a sharp edge for the divider. Might be why I see good boost so early with a splog manifold. I should have taken pics of it b4 I put it on for everyone to see.

your pushing way out of the efficiency zone and just pumping hot air. as long as you stay on the island, even at a lower psi, im still in the efficiency zone

So this is just on paper that it shows Im just pumping hot air. If I was pumping so much hot air then my iats would be up there pretty good. Seeing as how they were below 105* after 7 4th gear pulls in less than 20 min (ambient temp was 85*), I would say its not really just pumping hot air.

Here is a video of my run using a 7 blade hx35g which has the 50mm wheel
My setup is
84mm sleeved lsvtec
9:1
itr cams
Open diff ls trans
e85.
I think it can go some 10.3 with more boost and fixing my fuel starvation problem when shifting gears.

Idk. I did some tuning on the two passes I made that night. Very conservative timing and 10.5-10.9 af at 20psi. I would say around 450to if I had to you my butt dyno.

I run a D16 with an undivided ramhorn to an hx35 12cm housing to 3in full exhaust. 22psi at 5500 in third.

Hi everyone, i'm new to the whole holset scene. i didnt even get this turbo purposely honestly. i am putting together a side project for the street to have fun while i finish my sfwd car. its somewhat of a budget build with parts i had laying around. so i was on the market for a low cost turbo when a friend of mine at work mentioned i could use the same turbo's our aircraft pushbacks use.there t3 divided flange but they work once i welde off the integrated wastegate he told me. so sure enough spoke to our lead and got my hands on a rebuilt hx35w 7-blade. lets see how it performs. the build is as follows...

bottom end:
gsr block 81.5mm with supertech block guard
GE oil squirter block off
eagle rods
wiseco 10:1 pistons
acl bearings
new oem pumps

head:
b16 (stock ports)
supertech valves, springs, retainers, keepers, seals, guides
edelbrock victor-x manifold
skunk2 74mm throttle body
ID1000's

transmission:
jdm gsr with original lsd
competition stage 5 clutch setup

turbo:
Holset hx35w 7-blade
RLD Fab top-mount or ram-horn (havent decided yet nor have i contacted RLD, but most likely will be a top-mount)
tial 44mm wastegate
tial 50mm bov
ebay intercooler
ebay piping

plan on tuning on EcTune with e85.
currently all i have is gsr cams laying around. hopefully ill find some itr/ctr or some blox somewhere.

looking to make 450-520...

Recently picked up a Holset h1c. Its in awesome condition. The exhaust housing is 16cm.Been through this whole thread and I have a few questions.

Im running a JDM GSR with GSR b17 cable trans rebuilt with synchros and mFactory lsd.

I dont mind a little lag if it helps with traction but im worried about spike. I just bought a PFab log.

My question is should i run the Holset 16cm^2 exhaust or look into a BEP .70 a/r. The car is usually used as a weekend warrior and occasional 1/4 track car. I am also considering all other variables such as piping length, innercooler size, etc..

Im still a newb when it comes to all this.
Any input is appreciated, Thanks.
