Function and Form coilover thread
ive always removed my lca to adjust the ride height. alot faster personally. just a bitch to pull the lca up towards the preloaded shock.
Thats why its not a good way to do it. Even ifu were to havr those tools available, its not a good idea to keep beating the hell out of it every time you want to adjust the height. Much easier to spin the top collar. Its not a lot of force, you can literally spin it with both hands
??????????????????????????????????????????
Why would you **** with preload to change ride height
The whole point of the design at the bottom is to retain suspension travel + spring load at any ride height

1. Loosen the lower perch (counterclockwise/lefty loosy) and spin it up.
2. Spin the top spring perch and spin it (clockwise/righty tighty).
3. Tighten the lower perch (clockwise/righty tighty) when the height is set and youre done.
You see, the 2 upper perches are LOCKED TOGETHER. This means that if you spin one or the other, the other will follow and spin in the same direction. Since they are locked together, they will spin the whole shock and this threads the shock in the mount or threads it out of the mount. Youre not actually changing the preload, the spring doesnt get anymore compressed/decompressed.
So by spinning the top one, the whole shock twists. To change the preload those 2 perches would have to be separated (twist one clockwise and the other counterclockwise). ONLY THEN would spinning the top collar actually compress/decompress the spring.
Get it?
Poor HBKfanatic explaining his heart out :p
Would it be a good idea to spray some sort of liquid grease on the threads that are threaded into the lower mount to keep the threads free and easy to spin later on down the road?

Cleaning them from time to time with a toothbrush is also good
Yeah I don't know about these ones, but with other coilover sleeves they got hard as hell to turn after some time. Ill lube the hell out of these, I will have them installed Thursday night! FINALLY lol
+1 on the wd-40 and cleaning
i take my wheels off and clean my every now and then and use a little bit of that turtle wax and dry spray on mines

Installed these last weekend; very quick install -had to change the 88 crx lca's to the 89+ (88 crx lca are like ITR style lca). Great packaging and they look great, only thing to point out is that the rears go about 1.5 inches lower than the fronts. Front is maxed and rear has about 1.5 more to go down. Impression of ride is awesome, a little on the soft side but ride quality on harsh SF roads are about as good as my kw v3's on my other car. Might mess with preload a little bit in front to stiffen a lil, how many threads do you suggest I compress the spring?

I wouldn't mess with the preload at all if I were you. It can lower the lifespan of your suspension. They are preloaded correctly out of the box, I would leave them at that IMO.
Preload is an adjustment and not necessarily right or wrong. We just make a big deal about it here because of all the discussion of how to properly adjust the height. Race teams play with preload too so that the suspension behaves different. They are already preloaded 5mm from the box and this is just optimum for a longer life and ride quality but you should try adding more in 5mm increments and go from there. I have never bottomed out the springs so adding a little bit of preload won't hurt.
I actually think they are a bit stiff and plan on having as as little preload as I can so that the spring has no slack O.o
It says right on the instructions that messing with the preload will void your warranty that came with these coilovers. Just a thought anyways.
Thanks HBK, maybe I'll add 5mm and see how it feels. What are the spring rates on your Type 1 for EF?
haha -didn't read the instructions. this is only the 20th set of coilovers I've installed and Hondas are by far the easiest.

I have them on my EG but the EFs are the same rates, 10k front and 6k rear.
Mine rub a very very slight bit at full lock on 15x7 +45 195/50.
Now we'll see when I get my 15x9 +12 195/45
Still can't wait to order the 14k springs for my fronts. Probably get 12k for the rears as well
