So let me get this right, you threaded the shock inside the mount as much as it would go? Then thats as low as you can go. You adjust the preload up so that you can have more room to thread the mount higher up but the mount is closed at the bottom so you can only fit so much shock inside there.

When you lower them to the max without touching the preload, theres maybe an inch or so of space under the shock to the base of the mount. When you add preload, you then have space to thread the mount higher but only so much until theres no space between the bottom of the shock and the base. Get it?

"Springs are pre-loaded out of the box. Pre-load is set at 5mm. You can check to ensure that your coilovers are set properly by measuring the length of the spring. All springs are either 150mm, 160mm, 180mm, 200mm, or 220mm. Once you have determined the length of your spring, you can minus the length by 5mm. E.G. 180mm minus 5mm (pre-load) is 175mm. The spring should be 175mm on the coilover to be pre-loaded properly. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us, and we can verify this for you over the phone."

Yeah pretty good upgrade for the money. Its nice being able to set the height to what you want.

I was talking to Migz and I mentioned you have Type 1s. He said he can come down and help you install them if you need. He helped me do mine

see...this is what im working with. when you try to lower the shock into the body of the bracket, it is really tough to turn. this makes me think it is bottoming out inside the mount. so how would i adjust this to get my car lower without sacrificing too much of the quality of ride or risking blowing the shock out. they are type2's btw.

WTF? lmao increasing pre-load means the spring will be more compressed dude.

Just installed my Type One's last night. They ride amazing and they go pretty low in the front when all the way down. Lower than the coilover sleeves that I had before.

I'll post pics up today when I get the chance to take them.

I can't see why not, as long as they are for the same car they would probably work.

Thats crazy that you have that much space up there, have you messed with the preload at all? Either way, if the shocks are bottoming out inside the mount, then thats as low as you can go. Some coilovers are open ended so you don't have that problem but messing with preload won't do anything for height in your case. Im surprised theres still all that space though.

I have a fairly new(bought about 2 months ago BRAND NEW) set of FF1's on my EG hatch and there seems to be a problem with the rear passenger side coilover. Everytime I make a right turn there is a knockin noise as if something was loose. I have checked multiple times to see if there is anything loose but I see nothing. But when there is someone sitting in the rear passenger seat the knocking stops. Any ideas what it could be? Thanks to anyone who can help!

^ Don't really need the tools, they don't work well anyways. I always use a hammer and a flat head.

I have the same problem, but on both sides and I have an "EK" hatch. I've been rolling like that for about a month or two. Your suspension could be blown.
