Function and Form coilover thread
i might have my shock towers cut out. ill raise the car up a tad bit and see if it upper arm hits the tower. then ill check to see if the tie rods and axle will hit the frame rail. so much stuff to do to get low. haha

Just got this handy email from function&form outlining this plan. Anyone sign up for this or use it yet?

Way too expensive IMO for those that already have it. Even if we get it with purchase, it still sounds expensive. For that kind of money on top you could of just bought custom rates koni/gc that have a lifetime warranty
It defeats the point. I like my Type 1s, people in here prob think I dont like them though haha. I do like them, just a bit stiff SOMETIMES for the street, handles like a dream on smooth roads. For the price it def. delivers great build quality, rides low as heck and at a great price.
Sounds like you can buy it and use your 4 credits to get 4 coils lol.$250. Profit!
The plan sounds okay though for the higher end 2.5s
Quick question about these.. I'm wanting to get a set of type 2's for my ek hatch. How do they ride?? scale from 1-10 1 being "stock" soft 10 being very firm.
they just wanna make more money, they say it also is just for the third gen.
werent they selling replacement shocks for 75? thats better than the "plan"

Function and Form is now offering a "Peace of Mind" warranty. Im guessing due to the long turn-around on rebuilding the suspension they will offer (4) free replacements in a 4 year span for $250.00 dollars. I think you keep your old suspension/shock if it blows and they will send you a new one within 4-7 buisness days.
^^^IGNORE LOL just read the above posts.

I wish I could speak on the Type 2s dampening. If they can dampen enough to make them ride even better then the Type 1s then yeah. I mean 12k and 8k for the Type 2s isnt THAT crazy. A lot of people drive on the streets with similar rates. If the dampening is set on soft, Im sure it will be a nice ride. I rode on them on full stiff and it didn't feel bad!
I think the extra money is worth it but I feel I would look into other coilovers for that kind of money. Type 1s should be fine!

That "peace of mind" waranty is a joke. I'm just waiting for another shock to blow so I can justify purchasing a set of GC/Koni's and junking these coilovers. I should have learned my lesson with the Omni's.
Raceland and F&F are probably exactly the same, but the Racelands are less than the half the price and seem to have better customer service.

Raceland the same as F&F? I dont think so... F&F has great customer service, Ive emailed them and gotten prompt replies, purchased them from weksos and they were great to deal with. I dont see how a noname ebay brand could be the same.
Haha yeah! I wish there were more people like me who would post their experiences so that some kid wont blow $700 bux and not get what they expected. I did plenty of research and I am happy with my choice.
It fit the budget and for the money you spend on these, they are pretty good. You could spend the same money and get something that feels nicer but for a stiffer coilover that you can auto-x with, daily and hit the track occasionally they're pretty good. I wish mine would ride a little nicer on bumps but it will improve when I get fresh bushings installed. Thats mostly because of the dampening, its set on the higher end. It makes spirited driving really fun though! Without that adjustability one or the other will suffer a bit. I've been enjoying mine lately though, probably because I'm not driving through this 1 shitty road town everyday anymore lol
Plus they look nice which is something people want and go really low. Not many quality coilovers go this low in this price range. They're also steel bodied when D2, K-sport, racelands, megan, etc are all aluminum. They might have 36 levels of dampening but IMO youre trading quality for options.

Raceland actually has some great customer service, from my experience any way. As well as some others from the Miata community I was on. If something was in need of replacing, they did it free of charge and quick.
They're $320 coilovers, how much do you think it cost them to replace it for you? At that price you're paying $80 for each tax included. They have to make a profit so at the minimum they're making $20 profit. So say they cost $60 to make for each one. For that price you are going to get very soft rates, very limited testing and be built with cheap materials. Though more than likely they're making more profit than that. I'm sure they would rather replace a $40-$60 coilover and keep a good reputation.
I understand, but just sayin' lol, they're customer service is great as well. The coilovers do the intended job, to lower, but are on the soft side. Which is what I expected.
my type 1's are good...they rode super soft when it was slammed on stock 14's. when i put the 16's on, it got alot rougher..it doesnt bother me to much
You might not see how they can be the same, but they don't seem all that different to me. Compare their coilover to a non adjustable F&F, K sport, D2 and they all look like copies. Makes you wonder what kind of profit margin these guys have when Raceland sells them for so much less. Granted they don't have as many models or available spring rates, but then again they're newest company.
I just don't believe an $800 suspension should blow shocks in a years time when the car is only lowered a couple inches and isn't driven on rough roads.
Yeah I agree. You gotta wonder though, how low were they? If they altered the preload then you can't really blame f2. Type 2s are intended for track use while type 1s are only designed for occasional track.

so type1's are my best choice correct?
