i bought the type 2's when they pretty much first came out. when they were still alluminum, from jhpusa. ive had them on my crx and my db1, in many many many different ride heights and dampen settings and they have performed flawlessly regardless. i seriesouly couldnt be happier with them. i recommend them to anyone.

can you adjust the stiffness on the Type 1's?

nah you cant, you can only adjust the dampening on the type 2's. i suppose you could try messing with the preload, but im not sure how that would go

Pretty much what he said. Increase the preload (compress the spring) and that will make it stiffer.

I got my type 1's today... Have some questions that maybe some of you could answer. Should I put them on the car threaded all the way up? or thread them down and install?

When people mess with the pre load, how do they do it? I dont want to **** with mine, I want to make sure I dont do something I shouldn't.

^when people mess with preload is when they open up the coilover and plug them into a computer via usb drive and hack the damping program in order to get slammed

Threaded all the way down and you wont even be able to remove the jack lmao. Put them on the car with like 4 fingers worth of thread showing to start off.

The only way u can change the preload is if you unlock the 2 upper perches. You can twist one and the other will move together but dont separate them.

This is how u mess with preload, just dont do this lol.

Im asking a stupid question, it doesn't mean im retarded there buddy lol

Here is a picture of how they came out of the box, would they be low if installed like that or no?
What I dont understand is the threads that are way up past the spring perches, if they threaded down would it make the car higher? or what? I have never used these types of coilovers before.

If you installed them like that you would be tucking tire. Maybe just want to bring the shock mount an inch down so that the car sits with a small wheel gap and go from there.

The threads that are way up past the spring perches dont move. They stay in place.

When you adjust the height, all thats happening is the shock mounts (red with the type 1 sticker thing) are going up or down in the threads.

If those threads above the spring moved down, that would be the due to you compressing the spring (adding preload) so they should never go down unless your height is maxed and you want to go lower (slammed).

You can twist the lower mount while its off the car but when you install them and want to modify the height, simply loosen the bottom perch and twist the upper perch and then tighten the bottom perch when youre done. The upper perches can be twisted left or right and it wont change the preload, only if they are loosened from one another.

LMK if you have any questions.

Thanks buddy, I have always had coilover sleeves before. This is brand new to me!
I really appreciate you taking the time to explain that to me!

Thanks again Can't wait to get these on my eg.

Ive clarified this like 10 times over in this thread alone lol. Its getting old already! Figured Id do a picture but from the looks of things I'll have to do a video!

Np man anything else just ask. I figure the more people I can teach the more people there will be to explain to others.

The main difference here between regular coilovers is that they adjust the height by compressing the spring. The problem with this is that you loose shock travel, the spring will have less space to compress/decompress and so bottoming out the spring becomes an issue. However with these you adjust the height by making the whole shock shorter, not compressing the spring. You make the shock shorter by threading the shock inside the mount more.

Watch this video here, it should help explain it more. Its a different coilover but exact same concept.

BTW:

The spanner wrench for the lower perch that comes included with the Function and Forms are garbage, dont bother using them. See for yourself, they dont fit. They are too big. Utterly useless. Just use a flathead screwdriver+hammer to tighten and loose.

I was going to install these last night, but my damn lower control arm bolts are seized lol ugh

Taking it into the shop to get new LCA bushings in and the bolts spun out so I can put these in at home!

Yeah def. dont mess around with that. The last thing you want is to beat up your hand trying to get those bolts loose and have them snap on ya. Then youre left with a car thats not driveable and stock suspension.

Even if you had the force to twist that bolt, it would 9/10 snap. Theres just way too much rust built up and they are simply seized in there. Try putting force and the bolt is not so strong and will snap.

Seen it happen way too many times, such a pain in the ***. I'm glad I took mine to a shop as well, it was well worth it. The inpact gun doesnt just have the torque, it also has a rattle. It shakes that bolt like a crack ***** and breaks up all the rust and it comes off easy without hassle. Simply can't be done at home without the power tools.

Yeah I have had them snap on my EF. To much of a headache to work with in a small garage with no tools.

my type2's on my s2000 are threaded all the way down in the shock body on the rears. there is no way they can thread any further. so when i adjust the preload on these, do i turn the collars up (creating more preload), or turn them down (decreasing preload)?? i watched that video about the s2 coilovers but they turned the spring perches up to make more room for the threads. since i cannot adjust height by the threads anymore, that method doesnt help me. lol can someone clear this up for me please?? thanks!

For those of you on Type 1's on 96-00 Civic's, what's the length of the spring for the rears? I'm asking for right out the box and with the preload not tampered with.
