The Official EF Discussion Thread
I can't imagine removing the booster to change the alt. I have removed the intake manifold in the past but IMO its 1 million times easier to just pop the axle out. I can pop an axle out in 10 minutes if the snap ring doesn't give me much trouble.

x2. Why would you remove the M/C and booster? I don't think you can even twist the M/C out of the way so you'll have to disconnect lines and re-bleed brakes. What a pain. I haven't thought about that way, ever. Axle's are uber easy. Crack 32mm nut, pop ball-joint, chisel axle from half shaft, boom, done.

Booster looked easier and less muscle involved. But you have to bleed system yes.
Manifold = pull injectors, more nuts to remove all around , fuel line
so seriously:
Axle > Manifold > Booster ?
Dude, pulling the booster involves getting under the dash, which is by far the worst job to tackle in any ef. Axles requires one 32, and popping a lbj.
I did an alternator in 20-30 minutes with said procedure.

i love it when i work on a car thats been taken apart and put back together in the the past 2 years.
I thought it would be easier. Limited space in the garage and no 32mm for the axle.

I never use balljoint forks for fear of damaging the ball joint boot. Honda made all their LCAs as far back as I know of with pressure points you can hit with a hammer and the balljoint will pop right out of the LCA.

x2. I posted pictures of my pry-bar method a while back. Best method I've ever used.
Ive never needed more than a couple good hammer whacks to break a ball joint free. Probably used my fork for more things unrelated than its intended purpose. Only once did I have to cut one out that wouldnt stop spinning.. not an EF though, believe it was a prelude and on a steering arm joint.
Under the dash is a back breaker in any car and bleeding fluids sucks.. Im with everyone else on pulling the axle.
how is the vega box anyway?

Incase anyone is wondering, writing a thesis is not as fun as advertised. In addition I got a nice loft apartment in northeast minneapolis, with a :drum roll: single stall car garage.
Maybe the crx is going west down the road...
If you look on the LCA on the sides of the ball joint hole, there are flat nubs that protrude for you to beat the **** out of. I usually pry while hitting. I use a 3lb mini sledge for it.
If ball joints just spin I use an impact on them. At least until I can replace them.

Replacing an alt without taking the axle or the booster out.

I have to replace my hubs/bearings so I'm going to video tape my method for you guys. Also putting sphericals in my front LCAs. Bow chika bow wow
Quick guys:
88 std - if you do a bswap, do the dc2 axle outers fit in the knuckles or do you need to change hubs / knuckles or outers? Aka I'm wondering about spline count and diameter.

I have the progress spherical's on the inside part of the arms.. I would like to get some for the middle part and get rid of the poly stuff. only spot left in the suspension without a spherical.

All new hub/bearings as well in the knuckles.. only way I advise doing it is with a press..same for the Ball Joints. has anyone tried/used any sort of an extended ball joint before?
Im sure others have methods but I wouldnt want to mess up a new hub going in by beating it with a hammer.
I like the video tape idea Nick, was thinking of doing something similar as I put my car together to share on the page.. like a series of how to's. Just very time consuming.
Boosted, congrats on the new digs!
