to those interested, you can see in this video how far i slid when i wrecked my car. turn 10 is a slight kink between two straights...and brad, and almost everybody hits the "bump" on the right side of the track. that is where i lifted a hair, causing the butt to step out. i then slid FOREVER to the first tire wall on the left, protecting the corner worker station, way off. it takes many seconds at speed. took FOREVER while i was sideways slowing down. oooooff

My high compression LS made 174whp on the old setup and pulled way harder than my GSR ever did. That's why I sold the GSR and the LS is going back in. Mild port job, Crower 404's, 11.5:1 JE pistons, block bored to 82mm, blox intake manifold, 70mm tb and my rmf replica header on it this time. Also running RDX injectors. Hopefully the header change and better injectors with put me up to the 180whp mark. Port matched the tb and IM this time around as well as replace valve guides and seals. I'm just really hoping I can get it all done before IA.

Get the rods shot peened. It will strengthen them. I have some OEM PR4 pistons and rods if you need them. $35 shipped. Let me know if you want them. When you torque the rod bolts, make sure you stretch them. People spin bearings because they don't stretch the bolts first.

I rev my LS to 8200rpm with no issues from the rockers whatsoever. Just make sure you get adequate springs for the cams you are running. Don't use OEM. Also, make sure not to overtorque the cam caps. They will eat your cams up quick. Ask me how I know.

Thanks for the info! I will have to look into what you mean by stretching the bolts as I've never heard that term before.

I remember in 2002 a long lost car buddy had a B20/vtec in his hatch with a B16 trans. It was a monster compared to my B18a with LS trans. He was running low 13's up at Sac speedway at first on street tires. After street racing the snot out of it we went back up to Sac as he felt it was "running slower." Best he could knock out was a mid-15 second pass.

I lost touch with him, but I don't know what was really happening with the motor. Perhaps stretched rod bolts...but those blocks are not meant to rev up to 9,000rpm stock.

The rod bolts stretch after a heat cycle and you have to retorque them. Don't quote me on this, but I think all you really need to do is torque them down, crack them loose, then torque them again during the build process.

My question is, how are the bolts the main culprit of this issue, and not the rods, or am I completely off track here?...

Reason for asking is I'm looking to build a MILD LS... Type R pistons, stock rods, ARP rod bolts, full valvetrain, crower stage 2 cams, skunk2 IM, 68mm tb, and DC header. I figure it'd be good for a nice little power gain, nothing to wild and crazy, but swap out to some DSM's with a mild tune I think it'd be a nice DD setup...

Insight, thoughts?

Needing ARP rod bolts is a common misconception people (who don't know how to properly build engines and diagnos a problem) have had due to so many guys blowing the bottom end, thus breaking their rods and then telling everyone else Stock LS rod bolts suck, or worse, that LS/vtec motor are just not reliable. I am not a fan of the poor flowing head the LS has but the bottom end is a whole other ball game. I've had the luck of working with guys that raced N.A.S.A. H1 and successfully built Ls and B20 vtecs that in some cases lasted all season. From that experience alone I've been able to learn what will and will not hold up.

With that said, I rev my LS/vtec to 9k pretty much everyday on my dd civic and I've been driving it with this motor now since 'may 09 with not one issue. I must have over 25k miles on it or more by now. So to answer your question, yes the bottom end will hold up if assembled properly even w/o the arp rod bolts. I say sell em for something you could actually benefit from, like money towards a Vtec head for example

Hey guys,
PLEASE be on the lookout for my car. It's a light blue EF hatch. DX trim. shitty paint with rust in the usual places. It was stolen from my job today in Greenville, SC between 9:45am and 6:30pm. It has 255,000 miles on it. Stock D15B2 motor. I really don't know why this car would be valuable to anyone except for the cargo cover...

Anyways Here's pics. Tag is different. The Tag # is GHN 618. If you see it, please call me! (864)525-3295

Lol I got that car with baby blue painted interior, blue valve cover, and mismatched tails. Since I've had it I put matching tails, and unpainted interior pieces back in it and put a stock vc and intake on it. Not to mention all the other parts I've replaced trying to make it a better daily.

sucks to hear. Hate when cars get stolen when you are about to go somewhere important.

Mine got stolen some years back when I was going to community college. Wake up and get ready for school come outside and your car is gone. Welp guess I won't be going to school. And I had to drop my classes cause I had no other way and was living on my own.

anyway
So my car has been acting real funny lately. Thought it was the main relay but it seems it was the engine. I did solder the main relay and it start fine but when I drive it, it hesitates then catches repeatedly like it's about to stall then hard acceleration then falls again.

I check my spark plugs and they are oil soaked...
all of them. Along with car having a really bad burning smell, I intially thought I was running rich for some reason. Excessive water coming out of the exhaust and a feel of a misfire but no C.E.L.

How do I get extra oil out of the chambers?
I know its not my top plug seals cause I just replaced those and plug the rubber plugs weren't wet at all. And no signs of oil around the outside of the headgasket. Block still looks brand new.

Amazing someone would steal a stock DX.... idiots. I'm thankful that I've yet to be the target of thievery (KNOCK ON WOOD REAL HARD).

Down here, it's the big trucks and SUV's that go missing for their size and strong suspensions..... kinda hard to squeeze 10 illegals in 90 Civic Sedan and make it across the border

Hope they find it in one piece bro
