^^^thats what I thought it would be, ive seen that many times before. on these engines the spark plug tube is split in two (unlike all Dseries vtec engines with solid tubes). it's a little involved to get to put I guarantee once you do you'll see just how dried up and brittle your seals have become.

If memory serves correct, you'll need #16 (3) and #17 (1)from the exploded view of the cylinder head.

my car has been badly burning oil/smelling of oil as well b18a1. spark plugs were literally covered over the top with oil so I put valve cover gaskets on because apparently the previous owner took them off. still filling with oil now. what could this be in a b series motor?

I'm right there were you are @ gnx

ok this show how much I look @ my engine. D series has a different set up then B series

On the B o-rings are on the VC and I just replaced those a while back

Checked them again now and they are still soft and not hard @ all. Along with the VC gasket

No other gasket that I can see around the cyl. tubes

Well this is what I'm about to do. Clean the spark plug cyl with a rag. Spray some carb cleaner in there. And purchase some new spark plugs.

I really don't see any other way oil would get in the cyl.
If you haven't replace the whole gasket set I would recommend doing that gnx and see what happens

Its the spark plug tube seals that attach to the valve cover, you'll need to replace those 4 seals to stop your spark plug tubes from filling with oil

That's 100% untrue. The design is different mainly due to the fact that the LS is DOHC but it does infact have a rocker arm assembly.

what does the rocker arm look like? arent they just those little individual "studs" that sit under the cams? and by assembly I mean like the d and f series that have them all connected in an assembly

already replaced the seals

The rocker arm is what rides on the cam lobes and thus transfers that force into the valve spring, thus opening and closing the valves.

Here's a typical Ls/B20 rocker arm by itself.

Also referred too as "piano keys" sometimes due to their shape

No word from police on my car yet. That thing is long gone by now.

Oh well. As long as insurance gives me retail value of my car, then I can afford another one.

also, a bit more good news, yesterday I got a call from my HR department. I got the job I interviewed for 11 days ago. I'll finally get to put my degree in accounting to good use.

I know I'm late on this, but WTF is with completely stock rusted out cars getting stolen. I guess thieves are getting desperate since all the good cars have already gotten stolen....

It's sad, but our EFs are worth a lot more in pieces than as a whole.

I know I have a '89 DX seat out of my CRX that still has rails and a seat pan. the bolsters are all shot to hell so I'm not using it. Is that what you need?

I 100% know what you meant, but technically this too is part of the "assembly". but it's still pretty much semantics at that point, as they say "Tomato, Tomato"(can't really add an accent on the 2nd tomato there, lol) pretty much.

The parts all do the same thing between the 2 platforms of sohc and dohc, they just look different.
