my job requires me to work with some plastic factories, so I kinda know the price for producing ABS/plastic items. The material alone may only cost $5, but it's the tooling (ie. molds) that cost a lot and drive the price up. If they could only sell 100 sets of those, I am not surprise to see they are priced at $300+, cuz the tooling alone could cost $10k+, may be more, i am not sure, cuz I've never work on something this big. However, if they could move 1000 sets quick, then the price should be a lot more reasonable, but considering the number of EF still on the road, i doubt it...
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by UltimX »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Why do you think i was saying it would be more? more than just 25-30</TD></TR></TABLE>
Here's how I see it. Raw materials I'm sure isn't the majority of the cost. The OEM part had to be sourced, there was research and development that went into making the mold, obvious costs of trial and error during the process, company overhead (i.e. payroll, facility, etc), shipping costs to the distributor, mark-up by the manufacturer, then by the retailer (which is minimal in this case, trust me). Given the quality of the product and the difficulty/price of finding the actual OEM product, I'd have to say the price is fair. I'm not making a dime on these, I just want to help out an up and coming company run by good people.
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by DUFFM4N »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">they cost only $25-$30 to make, the only reason that they're not mass produced and stocked by retailers is because retailers dont want to stock parts that arent going to move as fast as, say...Vsion replica corners for EG...they stock whats going to move fast, they say its "made-to-order" but what they really mean is..."ive gotta call a manufacturer, see if they have any in stock...and have them shipped here"
ive sourced whos producing these sideskirts...maybe ill sell a few on here considering ppl are willing to pay $325 shipped</TD></TR></TABLE>
The fact is, I waited about a month for them to make mine, so perhaps we aren't speaking of the same people. I appreciate your input, but if you're not interested, or don't like the price, source them and sell them yourself, more power to you. All I ask is that you mind your business, and I'll mind mine.

A lot of things could play into it taking that long, but, like I said before, it's a friend and a trust worthy source. He has no reason to lie or mislead me of the fact that they had to be made for my order.

Yeah this is pretty much correct.
You people arent taking the tooling costs into consideration. I used to be a machinist and have worked on plastic injection molds and they are VERY expensive to make. For the mold for a side skirt you are looking at an easy $15k a piece. So think about how long it would take a company to recover from a $30k tooling expense even at $325. They would have to sell 92.3 sides skirts just to break even!
I also think about it this way. San Leandro honda charges $119 a side for the crx not including clips. If the aftermarket sides are anywhere near close to oem than $325 a set isnt bad! Just pay the money!
