I think that just like on Garrett turbos (and maybe every other turbo ever made?), there aren't any "seals to blow" in a Holset. You can pretty much always just rectify whatever the issue is that is causing the oil to sneak past the seal rings and continue on. It's a better scenario than starving the journal bearing of oil and ruining the turbo.

That is your opinion still. A .065" restrictor cant physically starve a turbo on a -4an line.
I am selling a Holset H1E for 400shipped
It has 500 miles on it, no shaft play.
Will come with a -3an fitting for oil supply.
Pm me for any other ?'s
Thanks

but, I am an ******* lol. not the kind to tell you things to **** up your car, but i tell the 100% truth, no sugar coating...
I have 25 turbos in my garage as i speak.... i've run all sorts of setups, with and without restrictors.. I ran a custom built garrett gt35(3782 compressor wheel) on my sr20, 4an feedline with no restrictor and never had an issue. Its all in the quality of the build, good oil, good feed and drain....
A good oil filter is also critical.... I bet you 90% of the guys experiencing seal failure run fram or some other budget filter....
Holsets were designed for 500,000 miles of over the road and towing... they are built to handle high sustained egts and oil qualities of all kinds. They have much larger bearing systems and seals, the abuse a honda puts on a holset is nothing, granted we run higher egts.
ive seen people run holsets DRY, and have never had one issue afterwards.
also remember this... a lot of these people get these turbos off of ebay and have 0 clue as to their condition and previous life and then toss them on and bitch when the start blowing oil past the seals.

With the holsets I run 3an, thats what it says in holset manuals. With garretts I've run both.
You could run either or with a holset, it's all personal preference. But with a 4an line on a used unknown condition holset it's just a matter of time before a seal let's go. You'd be safer running 4an on a newer/rebuilt holset without issues vs. An old one.
Apparently reading comprehension and debate skills aren't your strong points lol

i've been reading this thread for awhile now. i'm getting pretty excited
heres my setup, sitting on an engine stand ready to be installed....
b18b block
stock bore, Cp 9.0:1
eagle rods
polished b18b crank
acl race bearings
all new oem honda gaskets/seals
stock b16 head
precision 1000cc injectors (flow tested to around 900-940cc's)
will be tuned on CHROME
E85
any ideas what kind of power I should be making? this is not a dd. mostly a track car that I may take to work a few times. I'm hoping for 400ish whp (more if the air/fuel ratios enable me to. i wish i had a knock sensor
)
I was planning on running a hx35 but ive come across a few hy35 and he35's for sale. should I stick with the hx ? I was also planning on running a mini ram to reduce turbo lag, but should I just stick with a ramhorn? Or should I fork up the cash and get a twin scroll mani ? my motor is done, i finally got the funds and want to get the best holeset turbo/mani setup possible. any and all suggestions are appreciated. thanks

wow i hadnt checked ht in a while and its a good thing i did... i guess it smy fault i didnt specify what line i would be running and the condition of the turbo.... the turbo is an hx35w 7 blade is new comes with the 12cm housing, also have an hx40w thats also new with the 17cm exhaust housing...
and i was planning on using the -4an line since ive only found that 12x 1.5 to -4an.. ima see if jegs has a 12x 1.4 to -3an.... but both sorry if i started a debate... great info though..

My feed line for the turbo is a -4AN line on both ends. I use a 1/8" NPT to -4AN fitting to connect to a sandwich plate but you can get a t-fitting for your sending unit. To connect the -4AN line to the turbo, I'm using a -4AN 12mmX1.5 flare.
hello fellow holset owners i kept forgetting we had our own thread here is my setup
81.5mm darton sleeved ls
je pistons 9:1 comp
eagle rods
acl bearing
sk2 valvetrain
gsr cams(but have kilford cams just not installed yet)
1000cc precision injectors
msd cap/with 5th wire
victor x manifold
omni throttle body
fuel lab fpr
hks bov(a real one)
tial 44mm wastegate
precision fab t4 top mount
holset hx52
full race intercooler
custom 2 piece intercooler
full race feed line kit(4an)
full race return line kit
moroso pan
hondata s300/boost by gear and solenoid
stage 5 competition clutch unsprung.(driving up to dyno no probs few pulls on dyno no probs will think about twin disc after tune)
3inch vband exhaust
tanabe medallion 4in exhaust(discountinued)
been on the dyno once had intercooler piping issues before i had new ones fabed up. will be on dyno next friday so hopefully i can see low to mid 600whp, ima be daily driving in the summer so dont wanna get to crazy. im not strung out on whp more on time, and a 10sec daily driving integra full interior is what im shooting for.
my tuner hates my turbo for some reason but ima see how it works out, i will say this damn is huuuuuuuuuge and fitment was a bitch. thats why i went top mount. from reading online i thought it was in comparison to a gt40r and 366 but my tuner says diff. but we see
ima have pics and video up next weekend

first pull and the tuner didnt do any advance tuning(timung, fuel, ignition) it dynoed 488whp 356tq. then we started having ic piping issues and couldnt get a full pull after that
But remember a HX52 is equal to the turbine side of a standard S372 - so yes it is big and will have lag no matter what.
U mind giving us a few pointers on these turbos....i will probably keep using them for the longest... any help will be appreciated...
I have some serious Holset builds going on at the moment
But an important thing to know is that just any HX40 or HX35 or other isn't necessarily going to do the job - there are 100's of variations
The Turbo's I use and sell are custom built and matched for performance applications using specially selected combination of parts.

and the arguement of which feed line should be ran with these turbos, is the biggest issue with forums and foolish ppl. i bet if there was only a option to run a 4an feed line everybody would use them, its because a few ppl and alot of shops claim your product would run better if you had there product.
facts is there is no better product other than the one that always have been used. if 3 guys said there turbo failed because of a 4an feed line it would spread like wild fire and nobody would buy them again. its because its some many products avail to feed your turbo, ppl think the next big thing is best which is wrong.
a **** load of ppl is realizing this out now even outlaw guys stepping back into sfwd. but sometimes simplification(if this is a word lol) goes a long way literally. its guys who sat down seriously speaking who went back to the drawing board and figured out "what works to get the best time without spending a shitload of money". so stop with the feed line debate because a 4an line works perfect period

**** put me on. as to your last comment i dont mind lag alot of ppl cry about it my sti is laggy but its fine we all will see. i like the turbo alot and for the price aint bad. ima try this for a season or 2 then see how it go. if all goes well the $1000 i end up saving i will put a cage
On our high efficiency high revving Vtec engines - once you've made boost the car doesn't easily fall off boost completely as long as your gear ratio's allow you to fall into the "boost zone"
I have a special HX40 based turbo going on my 84x89mm Vtec, but im wanting to take the car to road course events as well, so spool is a factor for me.
If my car was meant for drag only I would've gone bigger as well
