well, im not completely sure, but i think he was at about 7psi by around 35-3700 in third, but with the clutch slipping it was hard to tell. im pretty sure he was hitting 10 by 4500-5000. cant remember. seemed to spool really well to me since this turbo is huge.(i thought they could support 600whp, 60lb hr right) anytime it went above 6-7 psi, the clutch started to slip. the more we drove, the more it slipped. at first 3rd would hold, then as the tuning went on, it eventually was slipping in 2nd. as soon as we get the clutch in, ill give updates.

oh his exaust consists of a summit turbo3'muffler(the $20 ones) and a dynomax race bullet(18"). full 3" piping all mandrel. you can see some pics on the previous page(i think)

si shane, i dont think you will have a problem with spool time, even on a b16(not sure though)

like i said, i cant wait to get mine going, but mine will be on a gsr with itr trans(4.40 final) the b16 is probably sold.

ya spool is def not the prob w/ the hx35 if you have a decent motor...traction becomes an issue around 10psi...some hit about the 350 mark around 12-14psi...i tell you one thing on 7psi stock exh the car pulls....open dp is no joke full boost by 4200 and all pull...no dieing out up top...

is the Hx35 is a internally gated turbo? If so how do you go about closing the wastegate flapper?

They can actually come both ways, both mine and a friends have none. Depends on the application/year. Ours are both off of Cummins 5.9ISB motors (just like the Dodge Rams) but the only difference is the exhaust housing. Might come from a generator motor or something.

read earlier in the post...you take off the wg actuator...and bend the wg tap over the actaul housing...then make a steel plate and put a bolt in thru it...i used a lil steel plate i had kickin around....holds shut and no need for welding...pretty simple fix

well, just an update on my boys hatch.(dark blue one)

got the new fuel pump in, installed my rc550's(the dsm 380's were maxing out), put in a new six puck and went riding(and tuning), clutch is still seating, but it feels really good. hit over 11lbs on his ls. with consistent 10lbs pulls.

we also lowered the front, ran out of time thursday night to put the back on.

we were going to the TRACK tonight, but it started raining hard at about 6:30 here.

as to my project, i finally got around to tearing down my trans, gotta order parts next, then im gonna get back on my project of putting my holset on.

Dumb question, but here it is: What are the gated hx35w set at?

I wouldn't want to push much more than 15psi or so on my built bottom end, right now anyway

you have to buy a wastegate to use this turbo. Weather it is a new internal or an external, you need one

another holset user here
I'm using a hy35 from an 01 Ram I got for free at work, it was replaced under warrenty because the wastegate was stuck the replacement was $2100CDN
b16
custom manifold
2.5" dp
2.25" exhaust
38mm wg 7psi going to 10psi any day now
starion intercooler

Turbo starts spooling around 4500rpm and I'm getting full boost at 7000rpm. My wastegate might be leaking though. I can feel exhaust coming out of my dump tube at idle.

3 or 2.5? In either case i was referring to a map sensor to run the hx30 at high boost, something not quite available for use freeware guys.

what would you recommend as far as that purchase would go? I wouldn't mind it being gated at say between 8-12psi. Again, thanks for the info.

you have two problems here...

a) 2.5" dp and 2.25" exhaust. if these were largened up to say 3" you would see full boost around 5k or so.
b)your wastegate is missing the fire ring that seal it against the flange. find one of these and watch your spool time magically decrease as well
