Been watchin this thread but haven't been postin, cause I wasn't sure if I was gonna run one or not, but I just got a quote for a hx35/hx40 hybrid for $500. What do you guys think? Good price??

Here's my setup:
GSR
light pnp head
crower valvetrain
crane stg II cams (almost identical to itr specs)
fully balanced block, line honed
9:1 cr
srp pistons
eagle rods
federal mogul race bearings
aem ems for management

Just waitin to get a manifold and maybe another wastegate since I have a deltagate and heard that they are not quite up to par. Lemme know what you guys think.

I'm using a hy35 from an 01 Ram I got for free at work, it was replaced under warrenty because the wastegate was stuck the replacement was $2100CDN
b16
custom manifold
2.5" dp
2.25" exhaust
38mm wg 7psi going to 10psi any day now
starion intercooler

Turbo starts spooling around 4500rpm and I'm getting full boost at 7000rpm. My wastegate might be leaking though. I can feel exhaust coming out of my dump tube at idle.

I say that's a good deal as the 40/35 hybrids sell at Diesel performance shops for almost $1000.

I can get the hybrid CHRA's pretty cheap but I can't get housings.. you have a source for those?

id def scoop up that hx35/40 hybrid....would work really well for a sfwd car....71+cfm/min...w/ a quick spool of the 35 turbine....get like a 16cm housing....that thing would def haul....

Paul, I'll let you guys know if the guy agrees to make it a public price, maybe i'll ask him what kind of group buy he'll give. Anyone interested??? Let me know quick.

Drum, why would I want the 16cm housing??? Wouldn't that that make the boost threshold higher (often incorrectly refered to as lag) because it's larger than the 12cm??

I *might* be interested in full ones, but I'd definitely be interested in housings.

Problem with the 12cm and HX35 wheel with the 40 compressor is possible surge. Without good maps there's no way to predict it, so who knows what housing you need to stay out of there. Pretty big comp wheel though, so big exhaust is never a bad idea.

yes it would....but the 12cm housing is like a .55 a/r...whereas the 16cm housing will be bigger...if i had one id be able to figure out the a/r...but im assuming it be around a .7-.8 a/r....it would slow down the spool a lil bit but it would allow the bigger 40 wheel to breath uptop....same senario as a .48 vs .63 housing on t3's

also you'd be bpushing the surge line pretty close like paul has already mentioned...and btw they even make 14cm housings if youd want to go half way...just make sure you got a decent motor to spool it up...and have it be able to take a bunch of boost...holsets dont come alive till 10psi+ ....and then its all nutz

Heyyyy, don't bag on my noobie bible. We all gotta start somewhere right. Actually I'm onto Ben Strader's book now.

Oh, and I'll ask him about the 14 or 16cm exhaust housing for the hybrid. If no one else is interested, I have no problem being the guinea pig. Oink, oink
(although guinea pigs don't make that noise)! Now just gotta sell my garrett to4, dp, manifold and wastegate...........

BTW: Here's my setup:
GSR
light pnp head
crower valvetrain
crane stg II all mota cams (almost identical to itr specs)
fully balanced block, line honed
9:1 cr
srp pistons
eagle rods
federal mogul race bearings
aem ems for management

I was planing on running 10-12psi on the street and ~15psi at the track. I think the setup I have could handle that boost using an hx35 or hx35/40 and spool it pretty well.

You can get the 14cm housings by themselves on eBay a lot -

hint - look for HX35's that came off of generators.

I have an HX35 w/ 14cm^2 V-Band Exhaust housing that came off of a Propane powered vortech engine that was pushing a generator.

well we took the ls to the track last night.(the blue one several pages back) 1/8 mile only . best run of the night was and 8.6 @ 87.something. best mph was an 8.89 @ 88.2. this was the first time at the track for the car(since turbo), on 13" steelies, peg legged. before turbo best run was 9.88@72 i think(mph may be off, but i know the et is right.) he has a obx diff he got for near free, that is going to be installed soon. (slicks are gonna come before too long)

question. he has the obx diff he can either put in an ls trans or a b16 trans. which would you guys pic? both are cable trans. he said the car will run about 120 in 4th now(ls trans). i think with the b16 trans he will have to shift into 5th in the 1/4. he may also go ls vtec eventually, and put some arp rod bolts in, for the extra rpms.

i think we could get it to 8.4 just as is, just need some seat time. i think for the mph we could get it well into the 7's on slicks with a diff. also just for refrence, its about 12.5 psi, and damn it feels good, last run of the night, a mule run an 8.4 beside me at 84mph, and i was hunting his *** down at the end of the track . im anxious to see what it would do in the 1/4.

also i would like to point out, the car has full 3" exhaust on it. on the street he runs a summit turbo muff(super quiet) at the track he runs straight pipe. to do this, the car has a flowmaster ball and socket joint right after the right rear lca, take out two bolts and remove the muffler, pick up straight pipe, reinstall two bolts, and you now have straight pipe for the track(car still isnt too loud) i can get pics if anybody wants
