The Official EF Discussion Thread
I think that tire looks normal. I have the same thing on my tires.
How many miles does it take for the rings to be seated? I haven't really drove the car much lately since the new rings.

For those of you following this:
"Hello, thanks for the inquire. Your video was great and helped us see the issue. This is only our 4th complaint over the years and thousands we have sold. However we are going to be switching over to something with a tighter tolerance and way overkill strength. Please hit me up in a week. If we are happy with the quality we will ship you out a set for $50 shipped. Thanks and sorry for the inconvience. Thanks-John"

decided to film my speedo...it's weird, i have a hard time pressing my foot all the way down on the gas...i guess months of driving the Land Cruiser to work and how much it was to fill it up (on average was $10 a day to go back and forth) taught me to never put my foot all the way down on the accelerator
i completely understand ESP charging what it probably costs them for the heims...
they arent cheap, and they dont have a forever-warranty on their joints...unless i'm wrong about that.

Anyone have some ideas regarding this BAR ref thing? So far I have concluded I either need to find a USDM B16 short block (anyone know avg cost?) or sell my swap and do a B18A/B.
For sake of argument, if I kept my tranny, what would I need to pull, with the b16 if I wanted to go B18? I assume the longblock, engine harness and ecu, right?

either that or buy a usdm B16 yourself and run that scheme

Okay, just got my callback from a BAR ref (earlier than expected). Nice guy. Confimred that as of October of last year the CA BAR had some information posted on the website, that confirmed as of April 15, 2009 JDM engine swaps were NO LONGER ALLOWED, period.
Now some additional clarification - you can use a JDM engine as a direct replacement if it was available in that particular car in the USA/USDM market and ONLY in that situation. SO that means if you had a del sol or a civic coupe that had an available B16 swap, you can go right ahead and cite direct replacement.
Those of us with an EF chassis, since there were nothing but SOHC's avail, sorry no love.
Now another exception, you CAN do a swap, if you use a USDM engine. So if you have an EF, you can do a B16, B18, etc as long as it is USDM. And if you get that certified you can now have the option of using a JDM engine as a direct replacement if that engine goes boom.
So if you are like me - 89 civic, B16A1 - you have a couple of options.
1. Sell the car.
2. Sell the swap and get a USDM equivalent.
3. Rebuild the engine using a USDM block (has to have the US markings on the head and block)
4. Trade the swap for a USDM equivalent or less - i.e. trading that B16 for a B18A/B.
So Vega, you and I are effectively screwed. Unless someone opens a business to lend and install a USDM B16 just for people to get certified with, then they could put the JDM one back in after.

I don't think their any markings on the head that its form a USDM motor. Only thing they can go off of, if they choose to be that picky @ the station, is the year stamp. But other then that they are all stamped pr3 or pr3-2
I have been looking for a B16a2 or B16a3 short block. I was just going to put my head on top of the short block install and call it a day. I have everything already other then a 2 @ the end of my b16a

Thats the route I'm going.
I have a ITR head that I'm going to use on top of my b16a2 and just sell my JDM motor out right minus the p30 parts needed.
Another thing is since we are getting USDM motor they are easier to check for stolen parts. So if you do find a USDM motor take it to CHP before you shell out the money and make sure its not stolen because CHP will take the motor if it.
Thats about all the info I have as of now.

One other thing that I can think of is that obd-2 b16a2 and b18c5/1 have crank angle sensors attatched to the oil pumps which jdm B16a did not have. (someone tell me if I'm correct on this)
Other then that its plug in play I believe as long as you use all distributor from the current setup if you are already obd-1.
I just don't know for sure if they will allow you to make a b16a2 obd-1. That probably depends on the station/referee and how they feel on that day.
Thanks for the update RSZ. Did the representative happen to give you a reason behind it all?
I wonder what they're trying to accomplish with this. Think about it, the people who are trying to bar/ref an engine swap arent your average honda/acura/import street racer wannabe. If that's the kind of person they are trying to affect, they are simply targetting the wrong crowd. For example, create stiffer penalties for street racing, dont take away our legal avenues! lol.

First remove the tow hooks and old traction bar or crossmember depending on which you have.

Anyone know the bolt sizes of the ones shown here? The picture is from another thread.
Thanks.

I've been getting good help over on the super secret ********** forum. A lot of them are accustomed to custom wiring haha.

My a/c clutch relay was def bad, so I just used the relay from the secondary fan since I'm only running one at the moment.

Agreed with FourthGen, email this guy if you have something to say about this - Assemblymember Jeffries [Assemblymember.Jeffries@assembly.ca.gov] - he is a car guy in government - and I have dealt with him on other issues - please see below -
Thank you for contacting my office regarding your opposition to AB 859. I agree with you that this legislation is unnecessary and would create a burden on automobile hobbyists and classic car collectors.
My father, Dean Jeffries, brought me up in the classic and custom car culture, and I still spend a good deal of my spare time at auto shows and races. I am also a member of the State Automotive Enthusiast Leadership Caucus that SEMA sponsors. In my new position as vice-chair of the Assembly Transportation Committee I intend to be a strong advocate for those who collect, build, maintain, show, and race classic and custom cars anywhere in California.
As the legislative process moves forward, I encourage you to track AB 859 at: http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/bilinfo.html . If you put in the bill number, you can read the text and status of the bill, and if you “subscribe” to the bill, you will be e-mailed updates on when it will be up for a vote, when analyses are available, and who voted for and against the bill.
Thank you again for contacting my office and please let me know if I can be of any further service to you in the future. Additionally, I am interested in hearing your ideas for future legislation to remove some of the existing roadblocks in state law that interfere with automobile hobbyists such as yourself.
Sincerely,
Kevin Jeffries
Assemblyman, 66th District
So guys, if you want legal options to remain open, lets start contacting this guy and go from there.

They didnt give any reasoning, but I sent off a letter to Assemblyman Jeffries today. I urge you all to do the same if this upsets you as much as it does me. Please use an intelligent response and at the very least spellcheck if you do, we don't want a bunch of letters looking like we are trying to get the state to cater to a small goup of uninformed kids.
newest response from ESP about the heims when i refused to buy parts from them to fix their **** up:
"I will split the cost of $25. Your heims are 1/2" 5/8" 18 is the specs. Just like a ball joint they may go bad when they do can't get a refund you replace them. We warranty the bar and it's structure not moveable parts that aren't lifetime guarantee . -John"
