yeah, really, thats what was recommended, and thats what the vtec has been set in in the cars i've driven in, b20vtec, lsvtec turbo etc. I was thinking about going 5.2k maybe but that all depends on what the programmer recommends to me based on my setup, so im going to wait to see what he says

5k is a terrible rpm for vtec engagement. I thought this was the case when I was 18 with my VAFC. If you could change the settings you would realize what I am talking about.
I would also be surprised to see tuners setting Vtec at 5k rpm on dyno tuned cars...........

 

depends on your cams honestly, matt. you're basing your experience on limited access to certain cams. My Toda cams are set for over 6000 rpms, but my skunk2 stage 1 tuners made a perfect powerband change at 4500 in my gsr. Dont jump down his throat just yet

 

my ecu programmer said that he recommends 5.4k but 5k will work fine so i might just meet in the middle and set it to 5.2. We'll see what happens. I rode in a friends b20vtec db1 and his set up is exactly what im doing, and his vtec is set to 5k and to me it felt like a good engagement point

 

i know skunk2 tuner 2 like 5.2k-5.5k vtec engagment or you can get a dip in the powerband i you put the vtec engagement lower

Not true, I'm basing this on my tuning experiences with B16, GSR, Crower stage 3, Skunk 2 Tuner 1's and Skunk pro 1 cams. and a stock K20. I'd say that's a good assortment.

GSR motor/head is different though due to the butterflies.

Wasn't jumping, just trying to edumacate.

The bar sits a little flush with the bottom of the lip. Will try and take/find a pic for you!

ill probably end up doing vtec somewhere around 5.2-5.4, the person programming my ecu says they have a basemap for stock b20vtec so ill probably end up using that

 

my vtec kicks in at around 4600, or the first stage of it does anyway. lol gsr with butterflies. stock p72 ecu, ported and polished IM, base timing set at 16 degress btdc.
