Time for new brakes. What does everyone prefer I am thinking of going either Hawk or Axis. This will be on my daily driver 99 Integra LS with about 300whp. It will not be seeing the track all that often and I want a pad that won't dust horribly. I see people going with either the Axis Ultimate or the Hawk HP or HPS . . . people seem to run the .480 thickness. Any insight would be helpful. Thanks

I like the Colbalt friction Spec B's but that is a track only pad... for street i stick to OEM pads..

I use Hawk HPS as DD/Track. DD no complain, better than Axxis MM but it faded in my lapping day. Both Hawk and Axxis do dust more thatn stock though.

8- 20 minutes race sessions = means I participated in a HPDE and was out on the course for around 20 minutes, 8 times through the weekend.. .

Reason I'm selling - I'm upgrading to 11" rotors with ITR calipers

Why not use stock pads for the street and track pads for the track? Any combination will be a compromise on both ends and it only takes 10 mins to swap out the fronts.

I find that the XP8s and AX6 pads are streetable which means you will have plenty of power behind your brakes when you are using that 300whp car on the street. They will dust a little bit more than your average pad but the dust is noncorrosive and comes off easily.

ive been using Hawk HPS's for a long time now, they are decent. i have a little bit of fade issues on hot days or HARD sessions in DE but cant beat them for the money. im anxiously waiting for these to die so i can step up to some blues.

I used the Axxis Ultimates on my dd/autox car, and really liked the performance. But it was a lot more dust than I wanted to deal with on a street car. I switched to the Carbotech Bobcats when the Ultimates wore out, and I've been happier overall.

I am running Hawk HPs pads in my DD/track car. I love them for a street pad. They don't have the problems that performance friction pads had on cold startup and they bite extremely hard when hot.

I ran two 45minute sessions without a hint of fad. Now that was with a good 140hp. Now double that and I will probably have a problem.

For this year I am going to go to an 11in rotor and add some brake ducts to my race airdam. And will probably go with HP+ or Blacks.

Has anyone used the EBC Yellow? I have a buddy thats using them on his HC car. They lasted him all last season and hes gonna use them his first event this year.

unless they have changed their compound, they still suck. remember, people use axis ultimates on their race cars and say they do the job. maybe they aren't hard on brakes or whathaveyou. if your friend is running an H5 car at tracks that arent hard on brakes, ebc may actually work. i'm not saying hes lying or he's wrong. just saying i havent had any good experiences with ebc brake pads in the past.

BTW- my vote for street pads are the axis ultimates.

I would get axis ultimates for the street/autocross and something much stronger for the track.

I think he did six events with those pads and is trying to get one more. I am suprised they lasted this long.

Shouldn't one consider the tires one's using when choosing the pads?

For example Im using HPS w/ RT615s...I can still activate ABS if I tried, so I figure I would need more tire, not more pad.

But would a gripper pad mean less pedal force is needed to stop the car, thus less pressure exerted on brake fluid, thus less chances of bluid boiling?

Reason I ask is because on the way home from the track day, my pedal was mushier than when I came...it was fine all day on the course though.

I have only used Hawk Blue's. When I first started (not good, still learning) 1 front set lasted me 8 weekends. Now, with the car at pace with ITA leaders, I get 5 weekends. The conclusion I am drawing is that you're skill (how hard you brake) is a strong determiner of how long the pads last. An H5 car is significantly lighter than my Integra, so could believe 6 or more events.
