Default hawk vs. axxis mm vs. EBC green stuff

which pad should i get if i do occasional autocross, rarely any track events, and mostly street driving 30 miles a week?

current pads: PBR MM front, NISSIN rear (gonna switch them out for Axxis ultimates to change brake bias soon tho)

thanks guys

I liked the EBC Greenstuff several years ago but the second set was very disappointing and won't go back. I really like the Hawk HP Plus that I have been running for about a year and a half. I plan to use them again when these are gone.

i heard that the hawk are a good high temperature pad. does that mean they suck when it's cold and might damage my rotor if i do hard braking while cold? i read that the axxis ultimates do that when cold so i am cautious.

I like the Hawk HP Plus, but they are extremely squeaky. Held up well at a track day, and work well at an autocross.

I had a good experience with Axxis Ultimates on a 2000 Si ... For the past year I've been running the Panther+ compound by Carbotech Engineering on my 2003 EP3. Excellent compound for daily driving and autoX/track use. Just replaced my first set after 3 track events (300-350 track miles) and probably 7K street miles (can't remember off the top of my head). Still had some life left in them but I upgraded my braking system. They do make a good bit of noise and a whole lot of dust ... but it is well worth the performance!

I would suggest looking into their product ... they make various compounds based on your needs. Prices are very reasonable ...

Cant say anything about EBC other than the horror stories on here (just search). The Axxis ultimates were barely better than stock pads. I've been running the HP+ for a couple of years now and am VERY satisfied for auto-x and occasional lapping days/hpde stuff. I also had HP+ on other cars and was happy. The thing with HP+ is that you cant run them in winter as they just chew up the rotors at below freezing temps. Shouldnt be a problem for you in CA...

the hawk plus are a good all-around pad for street and track use. they are more aggressive than say axis ultimates (seem to bite harder, give off more brake dust, maybe won't last as long), but i think they drive great on the street and lap days. i never got the impression that they need to be warmed up to perform optimally. they are also more expensive than regular hawk or axis ultimates, but i think its worth it.

hawk has another even more aggressive pad than the 'hawk plus' and i think thats the race pad you may be reffering to.

can't say about EBC. never used them before. think i'll stick with hawk plus and axis/pbr ultimates

Yeah, an important note as there is allways seems to be some confusion on this. Hawk HP and Hawk HP Plus (aka HP+) are two different products. The former is supposedly similar or a little more aggressive than say Axxis Ultimates and the latter is quite a bit more aggressive. I never had issues with cold bite with HP+, other they are a little hard to modulate when cold.

looks like many ppl don't like the ebc. but are satisfied with the hawks. I will look into the hawk HP+.

what do you guys think of PBR or Axxis metal master? i had ultimates before and they seem to feel better than the MMs. but i do not know how well my rotors will hold up.

pbr/axis ultimates are a good value for street pads. the ultimates are bit more aggressive than the mm. im sure they would work decent for track/autoX use. they're relatively cheaper than the hawk plus pads (1/2 price iirc). i like the hawk plus a lot more, but the ultimates can't be beat for its value. i have a set in my beater crx, and i like them.
