The Official EF Discussion Thread
Hey Dan. The way that my cage is set up from the main hoop bar. Instead of traditional kicker bars that go to the rear shock tower mounts with X's in the center. My rear kicker bars go all the way back following the roof passing the rear quarter glass and back down to the floor trunk. From out side you can not see the cage due to every single bar has a slight radius bend in the 4130 chromolly tubing . Then the's two X's on the upper part of the cage for support. I'll post pics when I find some better pics than crappy cell pics.
Tallkyle. Your engine bar is freaken awesome. Love the work thats been put into it. Good stuff.

My back bars are setup the exact same way. Was wondering the same thing. My guess is that if the bars go the the wheel wells/ shock tower its better for overall rigidity

Going in a different direction.lol

radius bend with the door bars.

rear section of the cage.

I wanted the cage to be tucked inside as much as possible to avoid unwanted attention. I'm very happy with the cage.

Adam, TK what you think?
I mounted my intercooler too close to my turbo. When the motor moved the turbo dented my cooler, here is the picture, there are two pin holes.
How would you guys go about repairing this?

I dont have access to a tig and tbh dont trust most local welders.

if it's 2 pin holes, just take it somewhere and have them weld it. since you don't trust local welders for whatever reason, send it off somewhere. Or you can JB weld and hope for the best
Try to find a shop that just deals with radiators. I tore up a rad pretty bad one time and i took it to. Radiator shop they patched it up nice. Never leaked.
Jim, that tube work is insane! Please tell me you work for or with ASC?
Youve practically built a tube frame EF!... Ive wondered this since I first saw it, Are the dimple plates just a cosmetic thing guys are doing or is there structural purpose to it? (again, a noob question, just call me Curious George.) seem to see a lot of dimple dies used lately.
These road race/auto x guys were having a discussion about "landing pads" in the crx/ef with the factory fuel and brake lines getting in the way, some cool stuff in here...

Boosted man, that's ugly... but looks like the trans is back to 100!

Dan, I dont work for ASC unfortunately. I've just been a customer since 2004. They have been doing small pieces here and there in the past but this is the first full fab restoration project. The dimple plates/gussets that are connected to the pillars is for more rigidness. There will be more different style of gussets to be added. Thanks guys for the comments.
I did too! and its saved as a favorite.. got linked to it through some other sites and search's. Smart guys though... some nice cage fab work too. Im not entirely sold on "bridging" the plates though.. especially over the fuel lines.. just looks scary. Im 100% putting my lines under the car. That starts now! Not sure if I want to use a regular banjo or a 12x1.25mm--> -6an fitting though. (that is the correct pitch for our fuel tank??anyone?)

Boosted, id just put a dab of jb on the holes. Real weld =need a good welder to do it, and JB will more than holdit. Currently holding my old radiator together with it. Ha
