well since the 90-91 bumper is rounder then the 88-89 I think you can cut the edges down on a 90-91 bumper support ad possibly use it.

I'm not sure on that though

ordering what bumper??

are you ordering the bumper alone without the bumper support.
Put it like this:
just match up the bumper with the proper bumper support.

If you have a 90-91 bumper support and you are ordering a 88-89 front bumper you will need to trim down the bumper support on the edges to properly accomidate the sqaure shape of the 88-89 bumper.
but to save you the hassle if anyhting I would just go to the junkyard and pick up a bumper support for the year you need.

If you are getting a JDM bumper then you need the jdm bumper support. No other mounting support will work as far as hatches go. This could be a different story in references to CRXs
Same goes for rear bumpers
