anybody using a lightweight flywheel on an otherwise stock engine?
I wanna get one for my b20 but i'm a little nervous that without tuning it might help more then it hurts. I noticed when i had a fidanza 7lb flywheel on a GSR that when i was at higher RPMs and would hit the clutch to drop down to idle that the engine would drop WAY down (sometimes even stall) before coming back up to idle speed. I was told that it could've had something to do with the flywheel and that tuning could fix the problem. I do NOT plan on tuning this engine. just swap and reuse the PR4 thats already in the car. maybe i'll go with a 10lb flywheel?

those look sick on your car man.. 15s are too small 16s are perfect but these look way good!
b20's have no top end power. loads of torque, but no top end power. the b18b felt more solid since it had nice low end torque and was decent (not great) in the higher end. the b18b just felt like a better rounded engine and the b20 just felt like it kinda fell on its face where the b18 would continue to pull.
first off, why do you want to use a lightened flywheel but a stock clutch and stock engine? kinda doesnt make any sense if you ask me. second, 7lbs is just too light in my opinion. i wouldnt go any less than a 10lb flywheel.

Secondly, i think your experience with your b20 is exactly why i want a b20. i've never taken this LS to higher rpms anyway. i don't really see a point in doing that since, compared to my CRX, even a b18b falls completely flat on its face and is kind of embarrassing. i'm looking for low end power and thats about it. i'd like a little more of an edge when i'm merging onto a highway, or trying to beat a yellow light when i'm in 5th gear at 2,000 rpms.
i appreciate your input though....it might sound rude, but i think since you and i are looking at things completely different, i think i'll do the opposite of what you suggest.
i mean that it the most polite way possible.
hes not putting a b20 in his CRX. his CRX already has a k20. hes putting it in the DA which has a beat *** LS right now.
Kyle i had an exedy flywheel with an exedy stage1 clutch on my mostly stock b16 and it never did anything like you were talking about earlier. I would have no qualms getting another exedy. i would look into them over fidanza

my b18 didnt fall on its face. like i said, i had the skunk2 intake mani and crower cams and converted the car to obd1. those 3 things made a huge difference and kept the engine pulling up to redline (not that id redline it all the time either). but i was comparing the 2 engines from having them in the same car with the same exact mods done. stock to stock though, the b20 stops pulling at about 5-5500. after that, its pointless. but you will love the low end. its def. got plenty of low end power. and i understand you're going for the opposite of what i was and thats cool.
as for the flywheel, the reason i said the 7 pounder was too light is because my friend used to have one in his car and hated it. at stop lights his car would buck and try to pull him forward. i think the 12 pounder will do you very well.
how soon are you putting it in your car? im curious to see how you like it...i've heard soo many mixed reviews on the b20.

yeah i've heard the b20v setups are good, we're just talkin about a stock b20 though. my buddy actually has a really nasty all motor b20v build in his ek hatch. too bad he destroyed his brand new pro1's though

The B20 and B18B share the same stroke. The increase in displacement comes from the 3mm of extra bore size, meaning that the peak power and torque points should be at virtually the same RPM range for both engines.
The only reason I can think of that may explain why the B18B felt like it had more top end power than the B20 would be that the B20 you had was 96-98 spec, meaning it only had 126hp. The B18B has ~145hp, and in comparison to a 126hp B20, it would feel like it has more top end power. I'm assuming that if you compared a B18B with a 99-00 spec (146hp) B20B/B20Z you wouldn't feel the same.
The 126hp B20B DEFINITELY falls on its face in the high end compared to a B18B and 99+ spec B20B/Z.
Darn all this in depth talk about B20's and Ls's
I have only seen 1 B20 worth talking about and that was a local guy with a build B20, quite possibly the "worlds fastest B20".
