Haven't posted here in a while...just wanted to run a quick question by you see if I can get any advice. I have a B18C in my car for a few years now. Never had any problems until a few days ago. Whenever I try to open it it won't let me go past 5.5k rpm it sounds like vtec is about to engage then my rpm needle drops to 0, the car bogs down and then the rpm's shoot back up again plus the check engine light comes on.

When the check engine light comes on my idle is higher just under 2k rpm and there is a really bad smell like the car is burning really rich or something. Anyone have any clues as to what this could be?

Plugs, cap, rotor all have been changed.

Step one is to see what code it's throwing. It's not worth speculating until you have that info since it could be due to a myriad of things including mechanical timing (timing belt), ignition coil, igniter...

I was looking into doing that....I remember you had to pull back the carpet and count the number of flashes on the ECU if the car was a stock 91'. Because of the swap I believe I have to jump a wire?

You really should see about obtaining a Helms Factory Service Manual.

For OBD0 you'll need to jump the service check connector (SCS) and then look for flashes on the ECU. For OBD1 you'll need to jump the SCS and then the CEL will flash the code. Do some google searches, you should be able to find a ton of tutorials and probably videos on youtube.

I have the Helms Manual. I found the connector behind the kick panel on the passenger side tried jumping it with the wire but it didn't work.

hmmm. Does the car stumble going up to 5.5k rpm? Not sure if these would cause you to go into limp mode. Car voltage ok? Are your Tpms and map sensor good? I wish you had the code.

Thanks. Stock b16a (arp head studs, cometic head gasket), garrett 50 trim, 13lbs, on e85. That's about it

So after talking about getting a fire extinguisher for my car I finally got one =]

Found this automotive B & C grade one at Walmart for $15

I wanted to mount it close to the driver seat so if something happened it would be within easy reach. I ended up mounting it on the underside of the dash panel

I hope I NEVER have to use it, but it's a nice thing to have just in case something bad were to happen especially for just $15
