BUILT NOT BOUGHT!
hb420 - HOLY ****!!!!
I would be heated as ****. They don't need to take the wheels off, if it's on a lift to do a alignment. They should pay for the damages.

They are trying to tell me that they were prone to break because they were old... they also tried telling me a spring was missing from my centercap but at the same time they were calling my wheels konig wheels. tuesday the owner is suppose to call me and if he tries to bull **** me i will take them to small claims court.
tranny slid on as normal as far as i can remember. as for the teeth, they looked fine as well from what i remember. i didn't notice them looking any different. also forgot to mention, the springs were very loose and some of the metal that holds the springs was ripping/breaking off. if you shake the clutch, its very noisy lol.
i'm not gonna say i wasn't ever hard on the clutch, cuz i used it for what it was made for. but most of the time, i was not beating on it. like i said, i grabbed perfectly fine up until the second it quit working.
hopefully it does not happen again with the act disk i'm putting back in! i'm always having the stupidest problems with this damn car which is why it sits more than its driven/worked on.

Great thread.
Though I must say.. My current project is far more bought than built. Not by choice though.
I got the car stock, I planned the build myself, did my own research and selected the specific parts I wanted and what type of motorsports I wanted to build the car for.
But I do contract work for a living. So usually 8 months of the year I work 90+ hours a week. One contract was a year long... Meaning I worked 14 hours a day for a year straight with no days off. My car spent that whole year at the mechanics getting worked on.
I do as much as I am comfortable doing myself.
I installed all my stereo gear, did some electrical work, installed the leather interior, changed the bumpers and panels myself after a colision before, some suspension work like sway bars, strut bars, lca's and end links, installing cf hood and trunk, done some of my own repairs like replacing the coolant hoses, the list goes on. But it's all little stuff.
I still cut myself, sweated my bag off under the car, and even shed a tear once when I ****ed something up.
Anyway, props to you guys that can do everything yourself. I'm far from that at this point, but I aspire to get there one day.

Here's one of my DIY's from a long time ago that I did for ***** and giggles:
I busted my front lip for the third time last night. It was so cold last night that the plastic must have been very brittle, cause the lip just barley touched the ground.
I took some pics this morning of the damage.
Here is the way the car looks right now.

Now here is the peices that broke off the car last night.

There's no point in putting a new front lip on while it's the middle of winter, so I'm just gonna fix it.
Stage 1
Secure the remainder of the lip with two zip ties linked together, then drive around for a couple weeks like that.
LOL

Stage 2
ABS lips only tho:
Go to home depot or canadian tire pick up a bottle of pure ACETONE (should be with the paint thinners), grab some paint brushes too, bring all the broken pieces inside and let them warm up, start off by painting the acetone onto the broken edges of the small pieces first, fit them together and hold em together as long as u can while brushing on more acetone on either side, the acetone basically melts into the ABS plastic and causes the broken pieces to melt into each other, therefore when it drys back up, u should have one solid piece again, continue doing this with all pieces and you melt on more pieces of ABS plastic onto the backs of the cracks.
BE PATIENT and do this as nicely as you can. It should work fairly well, keep in mind tho that acetone will eat through paint.
3 pieces into one!
In the last pic you can see where some of the ABS is actually melted onto my thumb.

I tried CD and DVD cases with no luck, they didn't bond to eachother at all when I used Acetone.
But 3.5" floppy discs work
Now I'm going outside to take the lip off my car! I'll have'er all done today!

Final result

All done!
Ha, 48 hours ago this lip was in 7 pieces.
Now she's all patched up and freshly painted.
If I can fix this ABS lip, any ABS lip can be repaired. Total cost for Acetone and Paintbrush $10, plus about 5 hours labour.
I know it's pretty ghetto, but I also wanted to see if it could be done.
The lip lasted 6 or 8 months until I broke it again... I bought a new one that time.

I used to balance all the tires for my customers with an alignment just to ensure there was no vibration.
Only other reason id say they had your wheels off is they needed to heat your tie rod and didn't wanna chance dammaging your rim

But ive got another ABS lip since, which has some zip ties in it as we speak, lol. When I crack it a second time I'm gonna go with a polyurethane one. See how tough they are.

This is what happens when dumb ********* do an alignment on my car
[/URL]
Are they even suppose to remove the wheels when doing an alignment?

Broken plastic tab and the threaded collar inside the cap is pulled out

This is how it's suppose to sit

And now it doesn't sit flush allowing the plate to rattle. plus it looks like they took a wrench to my centercaps
