Pray for my sleeves......why? Cause its a B20? That thin sleeves thing is mythe. I had the head off my B20B yesterday and the sleeves in my b20 were the exact same thickness as my LS and GSR. Pray for blown ringlands lol.

You said you suspected a headgasket and I also was hoping for a headgasket, not a sleeve since they can have similar symptoms. Ringlands will be a little bit different though. Is that what it turned out to be?

I dont know just yet. I know the headgasket was part of it, cause it doesnt smoke anymore, but its still waaay down on compression in #3 and runs like complete crap after a new HG. I inspected the sleeves and there were no signs of anything wrong plus it would have had a coolant problem and overheated, and it sat at the track idling for a half hour, and i drove it home, and never lost any coolant. Im baffled at this point, if it was ringlands it should still smoke and be pushing oil out he valve cover breather, but its not. So i dont know.

Did you check the valves when you had the head off? How far off is compression on 3?

When you do swap an HX40 compressor wheel and housing onto an HX35 I'm assuming you HAVE to have the shaft balanced (let's say this is a brand new or freshly rebuild HX35)? Or is this just a precaution for longivitiy purposes?

I'm about to start scavenging for a holset, but I spent most of last night on holsets website and could not figure out how to reference the assembly # to see exactly what turbo I have. Does anyone have a link or reference sheet they can pm me or post here? TIA

Would LOVE to know this also...
I saw this on ebay a couple days ago, has anyone seen an HX40 like this before? He said he thinks it's a marine turbo and that it's water cooled but what looks like the "water line" is coming from the exhaust housing....I'm thinking that might have something to do with an external wastegate and not a water line at all?
It looks like a hell hole but if might make a good core...here's the link
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...ZWDVW
Think this would still use normal hx40 housings?

That's a great link for rebuilding turbos, but I guess I asked wrong. While i'm in the junkyard, I want to find an assembly number and refer to a sheet or plug it into a website's database. Does anyone have that information? Thanks
