I'm just trying to get a general idea.
I'll be running it on an 83mm LS. . p&p, camed, etc - but I have a feeling it's going to be a fight to stay in boost with my ability to rev high still being hindered a bit. (I'll probably go to 8.5k max)
Seeing a good deal of boost by 5k?

this is my first post on hondatech, i have had no real reason to try to contribute anything to the honda world because I know nothing about them, but, I do know alot about what you guys are talking about right now which is the holset turbo, and have been actually using it on my current car for a little while now.
I bought the holset hy35 for my WRX which is a turbo that not too many of you (if any) have put on your hondas.
its a 2.4 liter motor with all the goodies inside, 8.3 to 1 compression, revving only to 7000RPMs with all the boltons and also management and fuel needed.
I have been doing alot of tuning for the last little while, making it run well on the car, and I can say that I am SO damn impressed!!
at 10 psi its faster than my old 62-1 at 10 psi
my 62-1 was 10 times laggier with the smallest housing turbonetics could sell me for the P trim wheel which was .58 a/r. I was seeing 20 psi at about 5500-6k
at 18 psi its running better than my 62-1 did at the same boost, the difference is that this turbo can go up to 35-40 psi and remain within its compressor map.
Im seeing 7 psi at 3k 14psi at 3500 rpms, and at just under 4k I have 18-20 psi. I have not had it at the track yet, or on the dyno, but its making really good power at just about 1.1 bar. with 3200 lbs of weight Its hitting 60 in about 4 seconds, and running up to 100 in 11 seconds or so. Im planning on turning it up to 25 on 100 octane, and hopefully that will net me alittle over 420-450 whp. (550 or so at the flywheel)
Anyways, I just wanted to post up my experience with this turbo and I hope that some of you might be able to use this info.
Another thing that I wanted to post, for you guys who want the fastest spool up possible, this company, http://www.bullseyepower.com sells a turbine housing for these with t25 inlet and basically mitsu downpipe, with t3 and also t4 flanges, that are the equivelant to 6/7 cm versus the larger 9 and 12 cm housings. These would be very viable options for the 1.5-1.6 guys wanting good spool up.
that housing has made 500 whp with hx35 turbos on eclipses and 600 with the hx40 compressor wheel and housing.

his car was freakin mean,, though that spike to 14 kinda worried me
, even when he had just the the block off plate still on and then t off to the stock exhaust but runing open right before the stock cat we saw it creeping to about 10 psi..

Thanks for the GREAT info man! I actually have an hy35 in my garage right now, waiting to be put on my 1.8 non-vtec honda. I'm only hoping for a max of 300whp when tuned, so i'm sure this turbo will be just great for me. Have you got any vids or sound clips of your car in action?
Also, along the lines of my turbo progression, I found that I need to clock the hy35, and am not entirely sure how to do it. I'm in the process of getting an aftermarket crossmember/traction bars for my DA, and a civic half size radiator, this is a big turbo. Anyway, thanks for the post, and keep the good info coming!
BTW, if anyone can get me a deal on a crossmember for my car, send me a pm...Thanks

Yea, the thing is though, on the hy, there aren't any "bolts" on either side. The turbine side is held on with a vband clamp, and it looks like the compressor housing is held on by a huge snap ring. The ring is kinda rusted, so I soaked it in wd40, we'll see if it comes off when I try to get it off in a few days.

youll have to compress the snap ring on the compressor if youve got to clock that part, otherwise, if you only ahveto clock the turbine, just loosen that vband clamp and turn. I had to hit mine with a hammer till it turned, and mine was a really newish turbo..
on the vids, yes, I have some 0-100 0-130, some roll ons and a few full boost launches with the good ole auto trans, but my frind has no way to put them on his computer. he tells me hes just got to buy a wire to go from the cam to the computer, but he has yet to do that.
this turbo spools better every time I tune, Im seeing 20 psi at about 3600 in fourth gear now.
