Don't be scaring me like that Blundy.........I sure hope that my hy35 doesn't fall on its face up top when I get tuned. Looking for 350-400whp and a stock bore gsr. Will probably have it tuned for 91 oct and 50/50 mix of 91 oct and LL avgas (~100 oct).

Off topic:

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by J. Davis &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">For the GSR in your profile? I'd go for a .57, still efficient for a lower power level like that, but spools great and plenty of room to grow.</TD></TR></TABLE>

I am confused sometimes when it comes to the t3/t04e series of turbos. Many people suggest the 57 trim as opposed to the 50 or 60 trim wheels. Can you explain this to me (cause I'm retarded). I have looked at both comp maps and it seems that the 50 trim wheel outflows the 57 trim.........

50 trim......47lbs/min @2.6pr and 65% eff
http://64.225.76.178/catalog/compmaps/fig13.html

57 trim......42lbs/min @2.7-2.8pr and 65% eff
http://64.225.76.178/catalog/compmaps/fig15.html

So it seems (to my ignorant a$$ anyway) that the 50 trim outflows the 57 trim and would spool slightly faster as well. Am I totally looking @ this the wrong way? Maybe someone can edumacate me.

I second that. I just looked at the comp maps and it looks like the 50 trim flows at 78% efficiency at the same power levels where as the 57 trim only flows at ~72%. And I'd think that the 50 trim would spool faster as well. I'd love to hear from an expert on this one to help out us tards. Here's a special ed version of a comp. map that I got my info from.

What do you guys think of a HY35 on a Stock D16Z6???I want to run 10-12 psi daily and 15+ psi on the weekends.

Also i saw that some come with a internal wastegate. Would I be able to use that or do I have to chop my ramhorn manifold for a external wastegate flange????

Eventually I will be building my Z6 up, prolly with 9.5:1 or 10:1 compression.

Let me know what you think. This is the current setup.

At the absolute worst case, it chokes and you have to drop $150 on a new 12cm^2 exhaust housing. Could be worse, you could have had to swap hotsides on a $800 turbo

Yeah, thats true, but then I have to change my damn dp 2!!

A bit off topic........anyone have thoughts on the 50 trim vs. 57 trim question on the last pg 46?? Just curious.

flow doesn't say it all. 50trims will spool a hell of a lot faster, 57 trims will flow a hell of a lot more exhaust leading to them making more power. That's my 10 second opinion

I thought that you could get the 50, 54, 57 and 60 trims all with the same hotsides (.48 or .63 a/r's). Maybe I am mistaken.

Your 9cm have the 4" vband? I have a 12cm with the 3" band, but there might be a 12cm available with the bigger flange. Worth calling around.

WHEEL matters as much / more than AR of housing.
A local guy stuffs HX50 internals into HX35 housings for diesel guys looking to compete in "stock" classes... and they have made 1200bhp on b1 (the familiar 5.9L) cummins motors with little more than a few hundred RPM spool difference.
Hmm.

Yea, it has the 4" v-band on it. 12cm w/4" flange huh? Might be somethin to check into.

I didn't realize that one could get different turbine wheels on the generic t3/to4e's. I know I'm a weetard.

You wouldn't be able to use the stock wastegate that comes with these turbos as they relieve @ like 20+ psi.

I would try to stick with lower cr's with this turbo as it is very happy at higher pr's.

Well the pistons im looking at now will make compression 8.5:1. Im looking for 300+whp on a D-series. So thats going to be 15+ psi so what turbo do you guys suggest? Was I right for saying the HY35 since it will prolly spool the fastest. Will it hold to a redline of 7500 or 8000??? Or should I be looking into the HX30 or HX35??? I really need to get rid of this IHI RHB5 Turbo. Want more power and tuning is free for me.

Damn should I cut and weld a wastegate in my ramhorn manifold or sell it for a log??? Hmm.... What to do.

Do you fall out of boost when you shift? You shifting at 8k? And b16 tranny I assume?

shifting at 8200, need valvetrain- I don't "fall out" of boost, but it does take a moment after each shift to come back to full power. I am sure it could be improved by switching to one of the 12 or 14cm turbine sides, but I will be revving it out to 10k soon so I don't want any top end choke.

yes, b16 tranny

Does anybody want to trade any larger housings for my 9cm^2 housing? The wg flapper on mine is welded shut, because I use and external one, but I;d like to try out a larger housing!
