A Hot Lap Around Road America in the 2017 Acura NSX

2017

The 2017 Acura NSX concept made its debut so long ago that I’ve actually forgotten when it was. Thankfully, the painfully-long wait is over and we’ve now had a chance to experience Honda’s super car in the flesh.

The setting was the vividly green farm country of Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, or to be more precise, the legendary Road America racetrack. Similar to Watkins Glen, Road America has been crucial to the development of American Motorsports, as well as played host to world-class racing series from across the world. Its various 14 turns and massively long straights fit the NSX’s capabilities to a tee.

The most powerful NSX to date is propelled by a 3.5 liter turbocharged V-6 engine that loves to rev to the stratosphere, and its 573 horses want to thrust it way out there too. Thankfully for me, professional GT race driver David Wandless was at the wheel of this beast, and showed me what all this super car was capable of. And let me tell you, the video doesn’t do justice to the savagery of it all.

All performance stats aside, the simple act of looking at the 2017 NSX, specially in Nouvelle Blue Pearl is quite intimidating. Its ultra-low profile and aggressive front-end mean business and nothing else. Good thing we did too, right?

On a side note, if anyone tells you the 2017 Acura NSX isn’t a “true” supercar, it’s simply because they haven’t had the balls to push it to its max. Enjoy the ride!
