i would talk about welding, but i suck, lol cause i havent had time to play with it since i went to college, but over xmas break . and i forget what machine i have, pretty sure its a lincoln runs on 115 AC mig. bought it used from Inline Pro, they used to use it for DPs etc., cause jeremy hooked it up for like 200$ so i suppse its a good starter and whatnot. i just need to get some steel and start messin around. i am however getting a chopsaw for xmas (fingers crossed), why did someone say they were scared of them?

and funny ive been looking at bandsaws and i had decided last week that the one Reno got is the one im getting jan. and a drillpress, lol. tools man, they suk. but so do cars so you know.

lincon 135 amps welder is what i have, on a side note, MOST tuning shops will make your DP's with MIG unless you pay extra for cash, or unless its a high end shop liek jotech etc. mig welds are JUST as good as TIG welds in my opinion fo rsimple things liek piping, if you really take your time, wire brush everything and clean with acetone you will be fine, i've made great welds with my MIG, luckily my eighbor lets me use his TIG for free so thats what i use when i gotta make nice welds on aluminum and steel, but MIG is great for cheap, fast , portable, good penetraing welds

alos, ive just noticed, when i MIG weld 1/8" steel the weld penetrates liek crazy and that swith 135 amps,
when i TIG with like 200 or so amps, the AL doesnt get penetrated liek a MIG would do, seems more of like a surface welds, maybe i just gotta turn up teh amps

SICK! !! i got a free refill from the welding store today from the guy that helped me set up and sold me my millers .. instead of the welding gas i just bought a new ss brush for alum and some aluminum cleaner and some solar flux . so i paid about the same in the end but came out with twice the stuff

side note

I HATE CAST ALUM MANIFOLD WELDING !! my dad blew up the motor in the minivan *( HAHAHAHAHAH) and a piece of block hit the intake manifold and popped a hole in it. he said " u can weld aluminum rightg?" i said well my welder can .. i can try !!! so i kept on gettin GoObER ****. i coouldnt get the manifold itself hot enough and the alum piece i used was thinner and sucked up the heat and melted. i goobered all over it and grinded it down i think imma put JB weld over it .. doesnt seem very strong ...

Any tips ??? i've heard of preheating the manifold before you weld it .. i can pull decent beads of aluminum on **** i dont have to mate up or try to get heat up at diff times.

Just make sure its really clean.. I hear mag wheel cleaner helps to draw out old contaminants. Then start out slow on the manifold.. let it get hot and then carry the puddle over to the new piece.. Take your time getting the puddle started. Preheating it probably won't hurt either.

a GOOD cutoff wheel would be fine for that. not a dremel, but one on an air die grinder or electric one.

a fabrication forum would be sweeet.

What thickness of pipe do you guys use for turbo manifolds, or just a regular header?

schedule 40 elbows in mild or stainless seem to be the standard, most likely because of the availability and cost. Regular headers use right around 18-16ga.

I don't know if it matters but did you consider that you won't be able to clock the center section so the oil drain is straight down? At least the way I read your description.
