i can look into it yeah- its a shame his work isnt there for others to see, even though it wasnt finished what he did was stunning..

Update:

Ive been working with FIBERWORX recently on some parts for the car, including a custom sunroof bung. The idea was not to have to cut into the roof to feed the turbo, instead i would put them in the sunroof.. Fiberworx have been a great help understanding what i was after and have taken on the challenge..

Today they sent me an update on the progress;

Theyve done an amazing job smoothing them into the mold. This will create a very tidy method of feeding the engine, i cant thank them enough.

I have to thank Martin as well for his awesome work with the transfer case plate. It is done and a perfect fit- i havnt had any time this week to properly fit it but it matches the transfer case side perfectly. Ill get a picture of it up asap to do its justice. Thanks so much Martin for all your work!

why this big change?

in my opinion the option of the big engine in back its better than the mid engine, with the dif in from.

in several post ago i mention that you have to be carefull with weight, your build is impresive with lots of power but in a fat body.

for example the project of the crx with rear b20engine, good times and a very good balance.

again, congratulation about your car! you have a lot of time in winter to work in your car!

Bit of an update recently..

Ive welded in one side of the engine support structure and tonight ive been working on the new rear structure.

The box section has been notched so that it mates with as much of the original chassis as possible, where the section meets the floor it has been reenforced with a 3mm mild steel plate to spread the load.

The rear structure will mount to what is left of the original frame rails, it will carry the new rear subframe and triangulate with the strut tops as with the engine mounts. The additional structure will also allow me to lift the back of the car without damage to insert and remove the engine and transmission.

This car is absolutely insane is the greatest ways possible. Been following for about 8 months checking back all the time. You really have a special skill of thinking outside the box which is uncommon in the world overall, keep up the great work.

You should think about setting up an archive on your site, I'd hate to see the past images in the thread disappear in a couple years time.

How far can you tilt the motor before it will effect the ability to drain oil out of the head properly that is been tilted back? I know Porsche and boxer motors lay flat, but do they have any provisions in them to drain correctly? Also are you going to modify the pan and oil pick-up to make up for the tilting of the motor?

That roof cap is looking awesome. It's a piece of art. You may want to turn the heat up on your welder for the next section of that bar. The welds will lay a lot flatter and penetrate better.

Great job. You are on the way to a car no one but you could ever imagine.

I know, my welding leaves quite alot to be desired.. When its all mocked up in place im going to take back some of the welds and redo them with a bit more heat..

With regard to the engine tilt, im really not fussed about it.. The engine is running a dry sump system so none of the oil pickup problems exist anymore, plus the crank case is put under a slight vacuum which will help drain oil from the head. It isnt tilted too far backwards, and the tilt is less than what heavy braking or acceleration would do to the engine under normal conditions.

Im now just waiting for some bits to turn up from FIBERWORX in the UK. Apart from the sunroof intakes they have done me some enormous favours.. Im waiting on;

EG Civic fog light bumper ducts to feed the oil coolers

Fibreglass Canards (4x)

An Extra wide rear diffuser (this is their standard one)

Front splitter blade

2 fibreglass panels which will form the new removable firewall hatch

and a chargespeed / spoon replica lip (the one similar to the J's Racing lip) which ill be ducting into my front brakes.. Im going to slightly redesign the front active aero system to drop the splitter blade anda small fence tucked in behind the bumper instead of dropping the entire lip like before..

Some updates tonight, ive nearly finished the rear subframe.. The ASR brace is used as a template and will also hold the antiroll bar..

Another little update for today;

Last night i managed to finsih the rear subframe. Now equipped with both sides of the LCA pivot brackets, antiroll bar, rear diffuser mount and active wing actuator mounts.

With any luck, tonight ill be able to weld on the captive nuts to the frame, bolt it on and attach the LCAs Then its as case of aligning the engine again and welding on the transmission mount. Im hoping by next week (depending on weather) ill have the whole drivetrain in and just needing removing and tidying up.

My friends at FIBERWORX UK have been doing some awesome work with my sunroof. Here is a pic sent today just before another layer of primer is applied.

Sorry chaps, ive been swept off my feet recently.

I dont want to seem ignorant so i thought id take a few minutes to update the thread.

The rear suspension structure is now in and braced, very happy with it so far - not quite finished as i need the engine out again..

The prop shaft and adapter are in so the prop shaft has been welded on

I have also modified the (now) front diff. Instead of frigging the hydraulics, ive acquired a clutch slave cylinder from a vauxhall corsa and made some shims to that it will fit in place of the current hydraulic unit. The benefit is that the piston area is similar to the skyline one, so i can run the pressure higher. The benefit of that is higher pressure control resolution. Im very very happy with the result and it should prove alot more reliable..

Ive also acquired a set of tarox 10 piston front calipers, so my willwoods will be going on the rear with a handbrake spot caliper.

ive also redesigned all the computers in the car to bring them significantly upto date.. They will now all be linked using CANBUS, and communicate with the new ECU and dashboard. The rear wing computer is beign redone which will increase its speed and accuracy as well as using the CANBUS to tie in with all the other sensors in the car such as accelerometers, steering angle .etc

The initial software wont be complicated but having the hardware and bus connections there means that a simple software change will make a huge difference..

I need to finish off the engine mounts to add strength to them and then its time to whip the engine otu and finish off the welding and plating i couldnt reach before. Then the rear firewall can be cut to shape and installed..

FIBERWORX UK have done me an amazing front splitter in carbon fibre which extends all the way to the cabin for optimal aerodynamic efficiency. The active aero computer will lower the leading edge 2" lower to the ground when the car is at high speed.

And there is a chance i could be working with another UK company who for 20 years has been developing a special multi segment rear wing. He intended it to be active but couldnt develop the hardware. Working together means i will be modifying my system to drive his wing and he will be working with me to develop a much more effective wing for the car- which will probably end up looking stupidly big- but actually have some massive aero effects, and much more drastic responses to changes of angle of attack. The computer (now with CANBUS) will be able to detect full throttle and flatten the angle of the wing to reduce drag when trying to maximise acceleration..

My first body parts should be arriving next week, including the rear firewall, the roof intakes, canards and front scoops. Also next week i should be receiving my new wheels. These are being custom made for me, they are banded steel wheels so not the lightest but sensibly priced, tough and perfectly sized to the available space. The rears being 11" wide, and the fronts being 8" wide, with the internal geometry suited to the wheel wells and the new brakes.

dont worry about the welds mate- im not anymore..

Granted they arent the tidiest in the world but it turns out my new nextdoor neighbor's husband is a welder on offshore rigs, he finished for christmas last weekend and i asked him to take a look.. He agreed, not pretty but they are strong, i need to improve my puddle control alot though..

seems like just alot of inconsistancy in travel. get the puddle going then keep a nice steady pace across the work piece and maintain your distance...very well executed for your placement and such. your geometry appears to be pretty good. just gotta refine your welding skills/habits

Small update..

Half mounted the front diff, dont worry about the rough edges, it will be tidied up once the diff comes back off..

Here are the new calipers, they are TAROX 10 piston numbers i bought from a chap on here (dunno if he wants to remain anonymous). Ive cleaned them all up, stripped the paint and removed and cleaned the bolts.. Come up nicely i think

Also took a small delivery from FIBERWORX today, been very busy so only got a couple of snaps,

Here is the front splitter, solid carbon fibre, and extends all the way back to the firewall for optimum effect.

and the best bit, here is the sunroof plug

Apologies about the messy garage, havnt had a chance to do anything at all lol
