That is completely true, it will take on a hell of alot of water..

Ive designed an air box for the rear, which the intakes will feed. There will be a dividing plate to stop water hitting the filter, so the water will essentially fill the bottom of the airbox and drain out of a hole in the bottom. It shouldnt be an issue at all..

Here is a thought, I found a build on Pirate4x4 were a guy built a tube buggy for his daughter using a Honda D-series engine. The engine was turned so that the front faced the back of the buggy. He had a custom driveshafts made, so that on one end was the inner cv joint and the other was the yoke for a Toyota axles. You could use a front wheel drive transaxle instead of the RT4 transmission. This might open up better options for gearing and limited slip.

OP, By making an adapter plate to flip the transfer case around didn't that space out the transfer case making it so that the input shaft doesn't go as far into the transmission? How thick is this adapter plate and are you worried because less splines are engaged? Or am I thinking about this totally wrong?

As much as Chris has invested in this project, I seriously doubt he's given up on it.

I'm very interested in your rear wing setup. Mostly the air brake function

My civic is mostly a dd/highway speed run/hardcore mountain run and road course car and I need all the supplementary braking I can get. I don't simply want it actuated all the time, only above a certain speed then it retracts. I thought about making a wing that's longer, to maximise the braking effect and maybe modify the uprights enough to get the wing 90 degrees to the road surface, although I'd need to figure out how much force would be exerting on the wing so I don't shatter it
I don't really need the height adjustment feature as I'll make more than enough torque to negate drag from downforce

I had originally thought about this, however, the roof scoop would seriously make a mess out of the airflow over the roof and eventually the rear wing- which is what i dont want. What i did was to put the largest NACA ducts i could in without impeding the headroom (im short so generally its fine). The idea with this is that NACA ducts create only a small disturbance to the airflow, however when the airbox becomes low pressure- relative to the ambient pressure, the ambient pressure will actually force air into the ducts and airbox.

No not at all, you are correct. It was a risk i decided was worth it.. I want to prove the idea using this method - with approx 75% engagement on the gear. Then once thats done, manufacture a new one to accomodate the additional length required by the spacer thickness (-12mm)

Get it done! I had awesome fun playing with it, turning a rear wheel and watching a front wheel turn is quite novel on a car you always knew as FWD.

Thanks for your support- you are entirely correct. My new job has seen me rather busy..

Also thanks for your support mate, i am back now!! The issues keeping me from progressing was money, compounded by this new job.. But hopefully i can get back to work.

No not given up.. I firmly intend to finish and enjoy this car. The next hurdle is to build a rotisserie for the car, 3D scan the whole thing, design the new body and then (somehow) manufacture it.

Thats a good point, its what i did with mine. However from a stability point of view, having the wing meet 90 degrees during heavy braking may be very dangerous.. What you have to remember is that the wing is generating rear downforce, if you simply flipped it to 90 degrees yes it will create a massive amount of drag- but the airflow will stall, you will loose all the downforce it is generating, resulting in a change in the handling of the car. It is better to either model the wing profile using a computer to determine the maximum angle of attack without causing flow separation, or to experiment with it..

To all those people (if there are still any) who have been waiting for me to post on here, i apologise. Things have been rather hectic. I have started a new job in the R&D future projects department of a major defence contractor, the new job is quite demanding and it has taken a while to get on top of it all.. Also had some various setbacks at home, affecting both time and money.

I am hoping to get back on top now, i have a few things to sort out first but i intend to get back to the car in the following weeks / months..

Chris

Chris
I hear you on that one man, I haven't even seen my car for the past 4 months.

What are you planning on using to drive the rear wing up and down? I have a couple of ideas of my own, but I have a drag race car. A lot of times with us, under braking at high speeds, these cars will lift completely off the rear wheels. I'm thinking about designing a rear wing brake that helps slow the car as well as keeps the wheels on the ground.

Also need to figure out some sort of controller for that, should be interesting considering I'm an ME and my electrical background is eh.

I as well just read through absolutely everything about this car and I only have one thing to say. If only you could been around when Honda itself was designing these cars, you definitely could have shown them exactly how to make the ideal honda. But off of that I honestly think this is the most detailed, time consuming, head turning, jaw dropping, sickest build I have ever yet to see. It's because of guys like you who have that much knowledge and passion for cars that make the advancements we have today. Extremely impressed that it was far beyond worth reading through everything. Hope this build gets up and running again so we all can see this beastly civic out everyone to shame.

Hello all.

Apologies again for my extended absence- hopefully that should be changing now.

The build of the car has pretty much stopped with work and financial commitments however i have made the decision to sell the whole engine except the turbo and wastegates. The idea with this is that i can sell the engine to try and make some money back, obtain a lower spec engine and complete the build with that money.

So if anyone is looking for a well built- very high HP engine, please let me know.

I dont expect the change in direction to go down well but unfortunately it is the only way i am going to finish the build and i know that people will not like the choice of engine so i am almost tempted to keep that to myself for a while.

The car will remain mid-engine, and computer controlled 4wd simply the engine will change. Fingers and toes crossed!
