AWD EJ2 Build
No worries at all mate- if i can help you with anything, drop me a PM, i try and reply as quick as I can..
I Sell the shift light over here for £65 + the shipping to the states is £15, so im not sure how badly that would work out..
To get the tacho to work, you simply need a function generator.. My voltage doesnt go high enough so i had to use a transistor to boost it to 12v.. Its a square wave, for every 1000RPM, increase the frequency by 30hz.. So 2000RPM = 60hz and so on..

As for the shifter light, it sounds awesome, but with current shitty exchange rates and the screwed US economy, that would be about $120! Which is quite a bit, consider that to equal out to about two 195/45/r15 tires here in the states, dunno how it would be for you

Sounds interesting I must learn more haha, is this a machine, or another gizmo you designed?

Sounds good, I'm going to pm you my first question now then :p I really hope you don't mind if I pick your brain, all these electronic ideas I have, and you truly have intrigued and inspired me to give it a shot!

No worries mate..
Thats really good lol, over here we pay about $120 for one tyre... Its crap..
What do you mean by this?
What I meant was, was the function generator you mentioned a machine that you bought, or is it something else you designed and made?

lol its crap lol
when i buy my earls plumbing stuff, it might be $19 for something, in the UK its about £25.. It should be about £12 based on the currency conversion.. Its stupid!
ah yes, its just something i got off ebay. You can make them but this was a really good price... It can produce square, sine and sawtooth waves from 0.02hz to 2MHz.. I use it for everything

Ah, that's pretty sick! I just went to a local little electronics store and was looking at their you build em kits. So intrigued suddenly that I am gonna buy some and build them. One of the kits I saw actually is something I was looking into incorporating into my circuit that I am looking at building that I'm gonna ask you about later. It's a third brake light flasher unit.
Would a PWM work to generate the signal to work the tach?

Exactly mate..
Things are alot cheaper if i buy stateside.. I buy alot of stuff from Summit Racing, theyre awesome..
Over here nothing is cheap, hence making my own..
No the PWM wouldnt work.. the frequency of a PWM stays constant, its only the mark/space ratio whcih changes (hence "pulse width").
You can actually generate a suitable pulse with a 555 (astable) timer... youll need a freqency between 0 - 280hz @ 12v

Taxes man. Over there they have crazy Taxes on everything! We may not have "free" health care, but they don't eather! They pay higher taxes on everything, gas and goods, as well as, income to pay for it. That is why I laugh when I hear someone on tv call "Obama Care" Free. It is National health care! We all pay for it!The Dollar is crap because we are printing money that has nothing to back it. Legally you can print your own money as long as you have the gold to back it. If you don't have the gold, it is forgery. So our government is commiting forgery.
Just my 2 cents worth, take it or leave it, I don't care!

Wow my build thread just got political - does that mean its now covered all subjects lol
To be fair mate, I agree.. Politics is not a strong point of mine, and to be honest I dont care because im past worrying about it.. All I know is that things are expensive, things are getting more expensive, but our wages arent moving to match..
Im just trying to get on with things I enjoy, if you dont what else is there lol
Thanks very much mate! I wonder what you can call my "craft" lol, hmmm.. Me too- i keep watching videos (sad i know) of when it was finished (before it blew up), just to remind myself it did once move..

Glad to see you doing your own thing though.
Alright, I'll have to look into that. The PWM's I'm looking at have a 555 in their circuit. One of them you are also able to adjust the frequency.

It should work yes, but the circuit doesnt need to be complicated to run the tacho,
http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgur...ed=0CDoQ9QEwAQ
That circuit should do the trick.. You should be able to replace one of the resistors with a variable one, giving you adjustment...

Here you go mate- for your circuit;
R1 = 300 ohms
R2 = 1000 ohm variable resistor (set to 0 ohms freq = 240hz, set to 1000 ohms freq = 31hz)
C = 22uF
Simple. The frequency minimum is 31hz, which is about 1000RPM, if you want a bit more adjustment, play with the values. But ive tried to use values youll be able to obtain..
Hope it helps anyway

A little update.. Im going away in the morning, and the rear wing mounts STILL havnt turned up.. If they dont arrive before we leave in the morning, theyre probably going to need collecting, so itll be Wed next week!
On a slightly more positive note, ive installed the actuator back into the car, and modified the brackets that bolt to the wing. Now the wing can tilt right up for the airbrake function.. I was going to get a picture but by the time i was done it ended up dark...
Needless to say i propped the wing up on a box, and started messing with the angle. It moves really fluidly, it looks awesome, and thats sat on a box lol- im really excited to get the supports back!

ME TOO MATE!! home stretch (for the wing lol). Nah its an unbranded wing, cant afford an ARP, too big to import over here.. It is a naca profile but not physically as big as the ARP, i suppose one benefit is that i can run quite a high AoA, then drop it as i reach high speed...
Yea that's gonna be sick, first thing that popped to mind when I saw it was how Mercedes, Porsche, and especially Buggati did their wings. If you ever need anything from the states, feel free to hit me up and I'll help you out anyway I can.

I find it funny that someone posted about how screwed up our new health care system is to someone in a country that ours is based off of. I'm pretty sure Chris already has his own opinions about social health care, especially with a lot of people outside of England knowing how ridiculous their system is. When you have an union for cleaning operating rooms deciding how many surgery's can be done a year rather than doctor's being able to cure patients illnesses is wrong.
But anyway, sorry for getting off subject. Any progress on getting things installed on the car Chris?

Not to get too far off subject here Chris, but I just saw this post.

I agree mate, and without getting too off topic, people go on about our NHS but to me its been brilliant.. I have a few medical problems in past and present. They, although with some faults have done me right - and im thankful that the service is there..
Anyway lol, small update. I was waiting for the rear wing mounts to come back from chroming, i went away on holiday and they hadnt turned up yet. But it looks like my neighbour came to the rescue..

Im really chuffed how they came out... If the weather is okay ill get them installed tomorrow
