I just bought a bone-stock civic and now I'm broke. How can I make my car improve speed as well as performance by spending little to no money at all?

find a used ex trans that will give u the best bang for buck mod.

Agreed, EX tranny. Import Auto Salvage has'em for about $500. If you consider that amount too much, just stay where your at, save, and turbo in the future. No sense doing the normal mods, I/H/E, when they really won't net you to much on your DX.

A Helms is an attractive investment....for ~$65, it won't make you any faster, but it'll sure help when you need to fix something.

$500? Keep looking dude. I know a shop 15 minutes away with one that has 70k on it for $100 out the door. And one of my friends has had to buy two, due to a 6 puck clutch, and he paid at the most $275. Those had around 80k.

Dude, that bearing in the trannies your friend keeps busting costs $36 bucks too. You guy should learn how to replace them. They arent that bad plus then you can charge that much to do it.

throw on a EX vtec head and intake manifold. You would only need to make your own vtec controller.

Sorry, but the import scene isn't cheap. The best thing you can do it just save up for a new motor. You may want to buy an intake or something for your car now but in my opinion just save up for that motor and it will blow ANY engine mods you do to your D15.

As for free mods, you can always take out your resonator to free up a few horses(and I do mean few), maybe disconnect your A/C or power steering.

Yup, import scene is not cheap. you could try gutting out your interior, seats, panels, cupholder, and cigarette lighter. you gotta spend, spend, spend to make it quick. just save up for now to get a motor. it's hard going places with a sohc. I would just put a Neuspeed & VTEC decal on my car so everyone thinks i'm fast. That should give me like 10hp.

well if u want cheap start junkyard hunting for parts yourself. look for an ex intake and exhaust manifold. if your dx is a 96 up than it has a 1.6 not a 1.5. still need to know the year of your dx that would help.

Get a 150 shot of Nawsss and blow your motor. That way you can justify buying a new motor, like a B18C5, something real nice.
