buying a 92-95 civic and swaping engine and trans- would this be worth it if going automatic?
i kinda of regreat selling my 99 dx and buying an 02 ex. my new car runs alot better and is overall cleaner, but doesnt look as good and for the extra money i paid i coulda really tricked out my dx. but the problem is that i know for sure i dont want a manual trans. anyways, aftter deciding i like the older civics better, and want something more custom, im thinking about keeping my current 02 for another year or two. then seeing what i can do with an older civic. lets say if i bought an older civic 92-00 dx, would it be worth it to swap a b18 ? ( or whatever is the fastest) and put a better ( stronger?) tranny in it if i planned on keeping it automatic. and if i do this i do plan on flooring it and hauling ***.

no company makes a tranny mount to put an auto b-series tranny into a civic chassis.....you would be better off putting a D16Z/Y with a auto from a EX

thanks for the responde, i appreciate it. just a few more things:
would my automatic civic still haul ***?
are ex trannies tougher than dx's?
does honda make pretty reliable trannies overall?
and how much would it cost to put one of the best ( for a honda) automatic trannies in a older civic?

Yes, autos are more efficient in drag racing due to the fact that there is no time lost in between gears, but these engines are tuned extensively for this. These engines are also built far past what most people on this board have. When you have a car pushin' 1200hp then yes an auto will be fast. Learn to drive a stick... it's more fun/efficient/ecologically/politically correct period. Manuals lead to world peace... save the rainforest.

I just finished a z6 swap into a 93 hatch w/ auto. I plan on converting it to manual later as it what I really wanted to have but the car was a freebie and I don't look a gift horse in the mouth.. But even with the auto and just bolt-ons the car is relatively quick.. it could be quicker w/ a 5spd but trust me, it enough to have some fun with.. and oh yeah FYI, the auto tranny in 92-95 civics is the same no matter what the model trim is unless it's a VX with CVT. Since they're electonic automatics the ECU determines shift points and other things dependent on the motor in the car.

I'm pretty sure I saw a 6th Gen JDM Civic VTi (B16*) with an auto tranny when ordering some parts for work... but I really can't remember clearly so don't quote me on it.
I just remembered how much I hate auto's in hatches

i dont want a maunal because of a few reason, first im lazy and just wanna push down on a pedal to go ( more fun too). and the second is that i live in a busy area and it would be a hassle shifting gears all the time.

i love manual transmission, after I done a sebring school event I never stop doing heal toe downshifting. It's nice having an automatic but i got bored the first 5 minutes. Good luck with your auto.

My understanding is that you can install a JDM b18c engine/auto tranny into a 92-95 civic. I have a 95 auto hatch. I was checking into doing a swap from jdm prelude. The installer suggested going with the JDM gsr auto swap. This setup wasn't offered here in the U.S. I was quoted $4000 for a complete running car.

A honda tranny is a long way from a challenger trans..honda auto trannys all only good if you beef them up. If you want to go fast in a straight line then go ahead and keep the auto. you can put in an auto b16,b18c1 or a h22...turbo!!

You forgot that you don't know how to drive stick and don't care to learn. Trust me, you'll never go back from driving a manual car.

If he want's an auto then that's his chose. I fully understand the city driving issue. I've had manual's all my life. I have a leg/knee injury now and have gotten rid of my manual's and now have auto's. Auto's can also be fun. I have 95 240 sx auto with a 95 SR20det Blk top auto. I have fun beating up on the local honda civic guys driving manuals. I have a 95 honda civic auto hatch and love it. I just don't expect it to be fast. Does anyone know what kind of numbers the automatic Toyota Celica GTS's put down? This may be a close comparison for the auto grs swap if he was interested.

I was just researching alittle on a Toyota site about the auto GTS's. Alot of people are posting that the auto gt is faster than the auto gts. Being that the gts's lift comes on so high in the rpm range like honda's vtec. Some claimed just the opposite. But anyway I read where auto gts's where running 16.7-16.8 with I/E and the auto Gt 17.1-17.2 with I/E. Not a big difference for the 5k u pay for the gts over the gt. I know the gts has other options over the gt but the engine is the key ingredent. Makes me wonder if the B18C auto gsr would be worth it in a swap. Maybe if you bolt on a blower for some low end tq.

Hey, I definitely hear what you are saying with the autos. If you want to do an auto right you will need to overhaul the trans (try using TCI Master Kit with Alto Red Eagle clutches), and you will need a good LSD. The ECU will need some programming to get the points right too. Don't forget that the JDM MMT was/is one of the best trannies Honda ever made!
