lets assume i have a rolling chassis.. i have +/- $5000 to put an engine in with.
doesn't include clutch, i have money aside for that.

this includes pretty much the engine, the tranny, shift linkage (del sol vtec), wiring, and any mods for it.

i am really concerned with reliability. its a daily driver, and hopefully so for the next 4-5 years.

i have been considering a b18c5, its dead reliable, and can bring a 2300lbs sol into 13's with a good driver.

only thing is, im scared to have that engine. NJ isn't the best place to have expensive stuff.

some friends were reccomending a b20/vtec with type r tranny. that would be awesome, but im not sure if i can pull that off for $5000.

another option was b16, chipped ecu, intake, header, exhaust, ctr cams, and hondata gasket.

just wanted to see what you guys thought would be good.

(ps: no d-series, i can't deal with another one.)

 

I'd go w/ a straight B20z w/ some mild crower cams. Faster than a B16, and sweet torque to get around town. Not to mention you can get a low milage longblock for $900 (how much I paid for mine).

You can have a Type R engine if you want. As long as you don't flaunt it everywhere then no one will know you have it.

why not just put the vtec head on it if i have the cash, and put some ctr cams on it?

 

properly built LS/VTEC gets my vote.

I see nothing wrong with it. Personally, if you have that much to spend, dont bother with low compression and stock non vtec blocks. youll be stuck if you want to go with big cams and a terrible r/s ratio. Thats just my opinion.

i've pretty much decided against the c5. i can't do it, the area is bad, and i KNOW it will get jacked.

im trying to find something that will give me similar power for the same price, and still be reliable.

i've been reading about crvtec's that have been running 3 years strong.

im curious what kind of power a b16 with a chipped ecu, hondata gasket, i/h/e, and ctr cams could put down... i've seen this, but im kinda sceptical.. thats alot of power made for such little mods.

no h22. i want my car to sit low, and not have to worry about oil pan issues. plus, cutting up my body just for shifter cables is crap.

i read a good 15+ pages on lsvtec stuff, and now i am considering against it.... i am curious what i can do with a b16 for that money. i 175+ to the wheels would be nice, as well as reving to 8500 all day and being reliable....

Why not B18C1? GSR swaps are pretty common and have good results.

I don't get something though...you don't want a C5 cuz you are afraid it will get jacked but you want something of the same power and price? I am not into jacking other people stuff but wouldn't it be the same if they were jacking a mostly stock c5 or a built B16?

well, b16 is nice, but if your planning in doing future mods, then the capability of the b16 is not as high as other b series.
You have to rev them high to get power out of them.
more displacement= happier you.

well. either way, i need to spend 5 large to put 175 to the wheels. thats all i ask. low 14's, and won't blow up.

i wish someone had a recipie that would do it. like.. b16a2 + stroker.. or b16a2 + cams and blah... or b18c1 + cams and blah... i dunno. i feel like im fighting a losing battle.

future mods... i dont really care. its my daily, i'll be happy with 175ish to the wheels, and if i ever want more, i'll throw 6psi at it, but it's unlikely.

Why are you considering against a LS/VTEC because some people couldn't put there motor's together correctly. Obviously if a motor wasn't built right it will brake. An I wouldn't exactly say Ls/Vtec motors are hard to build, exspecially with a golden eagle kit. Its like making mac and cheese for din din. If your going to stick 5 grand into getting a b16 and then whatever extra you have in to parts you will be unhappy. I have a b16 don't get me wrong it is fun to drive in all, but there is no torque and you will notice it . You could probably even build a CrVtec even cheaper then the ls/vtec, some people will say, hey the walls are chity, there not as bad as you think! Build a Ls/Vtec with your 5 grand get a j1 tranny or a s1 chuck a 80 shot direct port on there and be happy . Or just go have a big *** party with your 5 grand.

 

ey bro no matter what you get, anyone that from NJ or tristate is gonna know what your gonna get feel me. I know bout NJ and theif's my boi's ciVic b16 w/ arrrr internals and arrrr tranny got herb'ed. He only had it for 2 months As long as you invest in some anti theif items clutch lock, some kill switchs and a 2way pager alarm.. You'll be okay and feel a lil safer.. ( sorry i know this dont help your search for a swap, but i'd hate to see another NJ car get stolen by some to0l ) goodluck on ursearch
