Default Random ticking

My 5th gen makes a random ticking noise at around 3000rpm. It doesn't matter if it is under load or not. It isn't real loud, but I notice it and it bugs the crap out of me. What do you think, rocker arms? Valves?

Pop the hood and have someone rev it up, use a screwdriver and put it on your valve cover, put your ear to it.
Hopefully it's not an early sign of rod knock which is what I ended up finding out about my "ticking" noise.

Also, I searched and a lot of the threads state that it is a typical Honda sound. I am new to the DOHC VTEC realm, I am used to the sounds from SOHC VTEC/Non VTEC. It just concerns me a bit,

Thanks in advance

Cool, will do.

Like I said, it isn't very loud, I think I am just paranoid but I will try that for sure.

Thanks for the quick response.

No problem. I'm by no means not as experiencedd as the other guys but my instructor at school told me about that little trick. Could be it just needs a valve adjustment, who knows.

do u have any idea where it's coming from? i would think the valves needing adjustment would be ticking at idle.. can it be clutch chatter? (is that the term?) cuz my car makes a noise under similar conditions on cold days only. I know it's not valves for me because my valves already tick lol. just throwing the suggestion out there, i def hope you don't have rod knock o_o;

It is an SS Auto, no clutch. I don't think it is rod knock, it sounds to me like it may be coming from the head but I'm not sure. BTW the engine has 128k on it.

Hmm. That's what I thought also. Not trying to scare you into thinking that though...
Is it coming from behind the motor like where the intake manifold is? Is it loud or just a literal tick?

I can't tell for sure exactly where it is coming from yet, I will check that tomorrow. As for it being loud, no, it isn't loud. I have only had the car for about 2 weeks and I don't know if it has been doing it the entire time. You know when you get a new vehicle after a while you start to notice things that you didn't before. It could probably use a valve adjustment, the car has had only 2 owners (3 including me) and the guy that had it before me does not seem the type to have had the valves adjusted, but who knows.
