weird noise around vtec

weird noise around vtec
at about 4800 rpms (vtec for my sohc d16) my motor makes a weird noise... the best way i can describe it is a kind of rubbing or loose noise, i cant think of any other way to describe it.... any one know what this is?

well u just said that ur oil was pretty low and that might be a the problem but dont run ur car with out the oil..... might have a bent valve or spring...

ouch, i never ran it without oil, but i just hope its not a valve. im replacing my valve springs sometime in the near future so i would rather have it be that...

If it was a bent or burnt valve, you would most likely hear it ticking or clinking at idle, or other low rpms. You should not have to be in VTEC before you heard any "wierd noises" with a valve problem. You would also feel somewhat of a loss in performance. I don't think its a valve issue, but I don't know what it is. Hoped this helped some...

do you still have the heat shield on your car? my car kinda does that when it hits vtec and i know for a fact my heat shield is loose. but my friends hatch has aftermarket headers and his make some kind of like grinding sound from about 2.5k to whenever he shifts. so idk what that could be.

my car makes a clicking noise at idle, not very loud, but def. there

jdm d16a sohc vtec i haven't touched/modified my timing belt since i swapped my motor in 2005, a timing belt replacement is on my to-list but my timing hasn't been touched.
