Default 1990 Red Civic Hb swap question

I am new to the honda scene. I would like to know how hard it is to swap a type R engine into the car. I have a car lined up for the swap and a engine. Please tell what I would need. I tryed searching but came up with nothin. Thanx for your input.

i have a buddy that did a type r swap in an ef and what he did so it would wire up is converted the car from pure obd to obd1 then obd 2 so he didnt have to change none of sensors on the engine since all type r motors are obd 2 u will also need custom shift linkage, motors mounts, which u can get from hassport u might also want to change your lower crossmember to an aftermarket that is a lot thinner b/c the 4-1 header will rattle on it pretty much everything u will need is on hasport but u can also look arround e-bay if want what u need cheaper

you must have a black hatch to fit the type r swap in, red will not work.

This isnt and easy ot cheap swap..
Its hydro tranny so you'll have to buy the cable>hydro kit from hasport
Its obd2 so either buy a obd0-obd2 conversion harness or convert the motor to obd0..
Besides that its just like putting in a obd0 b16..And theres a lot of b16 swap pages over the net..

Screw the type R. If you have the money for a type R then just go w/a b20 vtec. That is unless you have the type r already. I would say call hasport, they're really cool with new comers and questions. They'll tell you everything you need to know.

Hosetly, if you have to ask questions on how to do a swap, you best bet would be pay someone to do it. You will have to convert to MPFI, if not done already, Get mounts and shift linkage, get a cable tranny (screw converting to hydro, much easier to just get a cable tranny) Get an obd0 to obd2 convertion harness and wire it up, swap the motor then run you vtec wires and wire them up. Alo of wiring, If you are not good at reading wiring diagrams and have no clue what you are really doing, there is a good chance or screwing up the whole car and having to pay to get everything fixed. Ask around and I'm sure you can find someone that will help that knows what they are doing.

I have worked on alot of cars before just not a civic yet. The engine is aready fuel injected not carb. I know someone that will do the swap for 500 but not including parts.

THey are all fuel injected, but is it Multi Port fuel Injected (MPFI) or Daul Point Fuel Injected (DPFI) If you can actually see 4 injectors on you intake manifold, then it is MPFI, if not the it is a DPFI and you will have to convert to MPFI. Which means re-wiring you ECU, getting a MPFI ECU and wiring you injectors. What model civic do you have. SI, DX, STD?

thank you for keeping it real.... and honestly you could just get an obd-0 distributor, go with the cable tranny, and not worry about the whole obd-2 thing..... yes u need to wire up vtec, but you could always get a V-afc, and if you got money for a Teggie Type R motor.... **** ....... get'r done!!!!

I have had the Type R engine for awhile now because my brother had purchased it awhile back but now has moved on to Volkswagen so doesn't need the engine anymore. I am just waiting on the car and I found it today at a dealership. The guy wants 500 bucks for it because the rings are gone on the piston. The car is in good condition no rust. I got till monday to pick it up or he can't promise me anything. I am pretty sure it was MPFI when I poped the hood, but I could be wrong. I don't know the model of the civic. I have heard there are alot of problems from reading on some fourms and ef-honda.com about the LS/VTEC conversion.
I can't call hassport till monday because there closed for the weekend. So I am relaying on you guys to help me out. Thanx for the help.

He has a Stage 3 EIP turbo kit on his VW VR6 and I have to say it pulls like crazy. But back to the subject any info would be helpful.
