So coming over the Balboa freeway it sounds like rocks being shot up under my car. I continue to drive to the club off White Oak and Chatsworth (for anyone who knows the valley). Get there and find the lowest belt is unraveling itself like a loose thread on a pair of pants. We cant see where its starting from to see how bad it is. I turn the engine on a couple times to get the belt around and finally find the start. It seemed to be widening which would mean it wasnt long before the motion unraveled itself. Drove it down the street after leaving the club figuring Ill drive as far as I can taking side streets (Balboa and Sierra hwy) all the way back then get her towed when I go as far as possible. I came to terms that it was the belt for my fans so I felt safe driving until Id hear it snap. Before getting to Balboa we drove past a mechanic for acura/honda. I pull in to ask someone if they could just take a look at the belt and tell me if they think I can make it home.

Go ask an older gentleman with 2 full sleeves if he'd check it out a second. He said yes and comes to take a look. Nice fellow goes and picks up some pliers and rips the extra flap that as formed on my belt so that it would stop unraveling itself. He tells me Ill make it home but get it looked at shortly after.

I love running into the people that still wear that badge of honor. That sense of wanting to help whenever you can. I go to that club weekly so I plan on stopping by and throwing him like 40 bucks. No much but I was thankful.

...but all in all GAY!

hondas don't have fan belts. Which belt is it? If it's your A/C or Power steering I'd have just cut it so it doesn't mess anything else up when it does break and then replace it. If you can put a belt on your pants you can replace any of the 3 exterior belts on the motor. If it's your alternator belt then you kind of need that one to drive, but can still replace it once you get home. Glad you made it home and found someone willing to help.

edit: forgot question mark

should only take a few mins to find the leak. Especially since you keep your engine bay pretty clean. If you do find it and tell me exactly what hose it is or take a picture I can tell you how to replace/repair it.

yeah Im going to get it fixed for sure. Wish I had enough smarts to do it myself. But at the same time I dont care to learn it until I convert to manual.

If you staring down at the engine from infront of the car its the belt that comes closest to you and I believes its the lowest belt also. Like all the belts criss cross, its the belt that protrudes out from the rest and rounds around something that then connects to the fans. Thats why I thought it was for the fans.

My problem with just cutting it was I thought it was for my fans as mentioned. I put 2 and 2 together saying "well if it snaps on the road Ill still be able to drive without the fans, but my car will overheat in minutes." I thought that because within the first week of buying the car it overheated. And it tends to overheat when its not moving or getting air to it. Like on a cold night when Im idling outside someones house. I've lost nearly all my coolant for that reason. And it was hot as hell yesterday so I was afraid the engine would overheat. But seeing as how it wasnt my fans it wouldnt have made a different haha. but I agree, if I knew it was my AC or power steering I would have asked the guy to cut it or just did it myself before leaving the club. But like I said I was afraid the belt handled my cooling process.

if it's the one closest to you at the top right front of the engine that's for your power steering pump. There should be a hose running to the gray power steering reservoir with the red cap. If not, than it's your A/C pump which is beneath that one. Just posting for those that don't know.

also, may as well learn as much as you can now so you can take care of this stuff when you have a manual

Oh dont worry, post all the help you can haha.

From your info Im very sure its the AC pump.
I found this pic on-line. No use hosting a new one I can use this one.

its not that top one which I take it for the power steering. Its the belt under that you can barley see in the pic. I just checked it out. The whole top layer of the belt is torn off and the right side is hoping up onto the spool or whatever you wanna call it. Thanks for the help. its reassuring it know its only my AC. And your right, that proves I should just learn on what I have first. Thanks again.

yep, that's A/C. Just so you know. replacing either the power steering or A/C belts takes about 10min and one socket wrench. It really is as simple as changing your oil.

...alright well as luck would have it. Same day my belt went to hell my buddy who I normally pick up from was down near Reseda in his gti and blew some hose. My buddy waiting for us called him after to find almost the same response he had got from me about his car. Random. But he started talking about his buddy who did a few swaps back in high school and has been working at a acura dealership/his G pas shop down in the valley. I dont know many people close to help with anything so I was always thinking about paying my old manager to show me ****. Well he's my ex's older brother who used to be really chill back when I was with his sister. He was had this lame as civic I always saw as rice before I knew how to drive or even was jdm usdm edm ukdm even was. (I tried name dropping them all at once Im so bad ***) But I dont think anyone would think otherwise here, blue and white civic, 2 toned diagonaly across the door with those 17 in grey 6 spoke volk looking rims. It was teh lame haha. But he can be a lot of help, especially since he works at a shop other then acura so I can get those charges verse the acura dealership and hopefully he can show me the **** I need.

And erik. Exactly how easy is changing that belt? You said 10 minutes and a wrench. Ive got a bunch of wrenches and a load of 10 minutes that keep proceeding each other haha. Easy enough to explain over the internet with type?

It is a little bit longer than 10min, but is still very easy. You have to remove one of the lower torque mounts and also the power steering belt (which literally takes less than 10min).

here are the manual pages for it. Very stright forward, but feel free to ask if you have any questions.

Power steering belt removal/installation. Simply loosen the two mounting bolts shown (just need to loosen, not remove) and then you can move the pump up and down by turning the adjusting bolt shown. Don't worry about the tension gauge stuff.

A/C belt: since yours is an auto you don't have to actually remove the mount itself, but just the two mounting bolts shown. Very straightforward.

Thanks a lot. I dont feel comfortable doing this by myself. But Im going to use these instructions with my neighbor instead of taking the car into pacc. Reading the gauge stuff threw me off big time. I can just pretend that stuffs not there? It seems important. What manual is that from? I was told about the helms manual and stuff. I need to pick one of those up. Again, thanks a lot for the help, both today and when I first found out about the belt.

I gained between 8-15hp midrange and about 10 peak hp with it on a mustang dyno. It's been proven time and time again. No other intake except for some well-designed custom ones make anywhere near as much or as usable power. It is ABSOLUTELY worth the money. Even if this thing was made by APC, but was of the same design and everything I'd still pay just as much for it. It's that good.

That's from the OEM Helms. Yeah, don't worry about the guage stuff at all. It tells you how to do it without the gauge and you basically just want to get it to where it has not more than a 1/2 inch deflection. Remember to let the car run for a few mins and then re-tension it like it says. You're very welcome man.

Erik, I think your original edits were better.

Also, I figured out my problem. It actually wasn't coolant, it was a leaky fuel line from my fuel filter. I fixed the leak and now she's all fine I believe.

well that's good. That's a bad leak to have.

you dun like my willingness to buy a good product from APC if they ever made one?

Don't get me wrong, I think it is a very good and gives good gains (and I didn't know it had gains like that), but what do you think about the J's Racing, ARC Magic, and Comptech intakes?
