The Official EF Discussion Thread
Yes and no. The ground for the starter is the heavy gauge wire going from the transmission to frame (usually bolts to a spot underneath the battery tray). That ground must be present and clean, and of thick wire. If not, no crank. Your negative is just as important as your positive.
vega: So when the starter activates, is it cranking the engine? Or does it just make a "click" sound?
What you need to understand is that when you 'pop start' the car, it runs! This should tell you that it has ZERO to do with ignition (spark, dizzy etc), fuel, or timing.

Correct the engine does not crank. The starter plunger or whatever it's called activates and I hear it click.
So if it has nothing do with the timing and all that and the starter is brand new where to search now?
does the black/white wire from the starter go to the main fuse box, I can't remember off the top of my head if it does or not.
Possibly clean off the ground or get a thicker wire and see what happens?

OKay.. Just sucks cuz i just repainted the whole car/bay and now i have to get in there with a whiz wheel and cut back a little metal. I bought the car from the 2nd owner and all the parts are still oem, taking the car apart i could tell no one had ever done it before. it doesnt need to be cut much maybe about a 1/4 inch in 2 spots to fit the rad mounts. I noticed the paint on it is very weak. looks like im going back to the powder coater. thanks for the input though.. much appreciated.
Dude, if your starter is running and turning the motor over, it's most likely a spark issue. My bet is your igniter. Pull one of the plug wires off the plug and stick a screw driver in it. Now, get the metal of the screwdriver close to a grounding point so you can see a spark while someone else turns it over. Is your fuel pump stock? Do you hear it prime when you put the key in the on position?
No, the starter will not "turn" on its own. It will only engage or make the clicking niose that you hear when the ignition is on but it won't spin like it supposed to after wards.
I hear the pump prime and the main relay clicks too.
Well then I would double check the connections on the starter and engine bay fuse box.
Update: The car started up @ 2:30pm today. Was hoping it wasn't joke so I let it set for came back around 5:00 and it started again. I still haven't touched anything wire related since yesterday when it wouldn't start.
I'm really baffled

I spectated a BMW HPDE session at Road Atlanta on the 4th. It was great fun to watch a crx run in the same class as corvettes and such. I don't know who the driver was or what was done to the car. I didn't run the coupe.

vega...make sure your battery terminals are both totally crazy tight.
make sure the fat wire going out of the fuse box is tight (the one that is/would normally be on the shock tower)
make sure the fat wire is tight on the starter
make sure the signal wire is snug on the starter solenoid

Hey Vega, that one is, or used to be my RSZero1. It was on black RB's before at the last EF meet. This is the one I traded with a friend for a mint 92 VW GTi 16V.
Those are 16" BBS RS003's on there from a BMW. He has since replaced all the exterior plastics with new pieces, rebuilt the driver seat, got a leather wrapped Honda OE steering wheel, EDM center garnish, new OE era correct CD player and installed Koni/Vogtland suspension. He works at honda and only owned Euros, so he's having fun with the car. Only put on like 400 miles since we traded.
And I get dibs if he gets bored with it.

Are the 16" BBS RS003's on that CRX 4X100? They look really good.
BTW: Does anyone eles have the problem of thier sun roofs sagging on thier crx's when fully closed? How do you go about fixing this problem so that it sits flush with the rest of the roof?

Is anybody using the buddy club low seat rails? I called about them, and someone said that they don't work well with the usdm models, because they are designed around the jdm crx....... Does that make since to anyone?? Lol maybe I'm just dumb...
