The Official EF Discussion Thread
Any East Coast or Midwest EF guys going to Nashville this summer?
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1873955
I'm going, but I'll be in the Fit, the EF probably won't be done by then.

I'm on the fence for this. I have a cable lsd currently, and a type r tranny sitting on the floor. I've heard the hasport kit works as long as you grease it really well. I would prefer to find an LS tranny locally and swap the type r guts into, so I can retain the cable tranny and not have to buy a new mount. The type r tranny is more appealing since it's easy to get parts for.</TD></TR></TABLE>
The only way you will keep cable and use the ITR guts is to source a YS1 tranny, and they arent cheap. They are very rare. BUT they do have good gearing in them already. Just add LSD and ur good to go.
I'm going to Nashville for the meet again this year. I should have a few new things done to the crx by then. I didnt drive last year....

no no no. Any ys1 will accept any newer hydro lsd (wtih correct fd), if u get a ls ys1, just swap in the itr guts and your good to go.

All 92-93 teg trannys are ys1, just some are the rare gsr with 4.4 fd not the bs 4.266

yes. i am hoping to find a 92-93 blown tranny or case locally. that would be ideal, and still cheaper than buying the hasport kit and tranny mount.
is there a way to tell if the tranny is 90-91 or 92-93 by looking at it? I'm pretty sure the shaft is a different size, but what if it's still on a car?

90-91 are physically smaller, they have codes like s1 j1 y1 ect, the 92-93 are larger

no. those are the 3 colors. and the gold is only available in 17in subaru lug pattern /offset.
so i even went as far to research into if they would ever make a gold in 15in, and it turns out someone did like a honda-tech petition but thats about as worthless as a nut in a deer turd.
ys1 to itr hydro internals is what dohc_c-rex is gettign form gearspeed along with a polished case, cryotreated gears and carbon synchros and im not going to say what he is paying but when you sit and think about it.....the tranny is 90% of these damn cars.
just look at the difference in E.T. with an LS tranny and a jdm ITR tranny on the same motor/car. or look at autocross lap times if youre one of those "drag is for ****" kinda guys.

You dont have to have a different tranny mount than the one they send out with their standard kits do you? I thought I was gonna be able to just buy the adapter and swap the tranny and be done...

yea my friend had a 2000 usdm ITR tranny in a 91 crx si with hasports billet polished kit and it was as slick as a greased jellybean. you jsut need the hydro tranny and their kit and your clutch cable plugs r ight into this large aluminum lever that depressed the clutch fork which the slave cylinder used to do.
just make sure you have the dust boot too.

im getting ready to put a cable tranny in a hydro car. who makes that kit?
edit: since everyone is so swift then buy one, machine your own version, and return the kit to hasport saying its for the wrong car.

LS trannys are probably good for turbo, gas milage and women commuters. The case is all I need. I want itr gears because parts are available and in my opinion the b16 tranny is a bit too short for an EF.
And I'm pretty sure the hydro trannys use a different mount than the cable ones. Check hasport to verify

I really wish people would stop saying this. Assuming you have sticky enough tires to hook up, shorter gearing will always = a faster accelerating car, no matter if you're turbo, N/A, or whatever.
Saying you need longer gears to "stay in boost longer" is like saying you should put heavier wheels on your car so you get better traction.

LS trannies suck ***** unless you like to cruise and you like driving in traffic.

Must be cause he's turbo
